Beast of Reddog Road is a short story about the time immediately after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963. It is a story that takes place in the rural farm lands of eastern Ohio, on a road covered in red dog slag.

A young girl, Becky, believed that evil was released into the world. An evil that she could smell, that made her gag. Also an evil that attacked her and left her for dead.

She and her young friends decide to fight back.

Beast of Reddog Road will take you back to a different time, not so far removed, but different enough from now as to be a world away.

Orville Burch

Orville Burch has dedicated his entire life to peeling back the curtains on the windows of the unknown. Growing up on a rural farm surrounded by forests and streams prepared him for a career in natural science. He earned a PhD in biology, while exploring the natural relationships of community structure. With roots in the tri-racial Melungeon people of the Appalachians, his interests in their life lead him to study with Native American elders and to travel and interact with several African-tribes. His interest in the unknown took him on adventures hunting cryptids, ghosts, and UFOs. He now writes paranormal fiction. Beast of Reddog Road

When I was 11 years-old, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. At the time, I barely understood much about politics, or the Presidency. But that one action placed in motion a series of events that would forever change my life and that of my best-friends.

I remember as if it were yesterday when we all huddled around the small television in my parent’s living room. We couldn’t believe that someone would kill the President. We knew that this was not the first time that it had happened, but the other three times were history. This happened right on TV.

I grew up with guns, we all did, but no one we knew ever died from one.
