In a land, many centuries removed, lived the great King Pieman. He watched as the horrors of a gluttony from sweets reduced his people to a helpless mass of flesh, unable to defend the realm, and unable to maintain their own health. As doctors got richer, he decided it was time to cure his people. He commissioned and had baked a huge pie. A pie that would be the only food his people could eat. All other foods were removed from the kingdom and a death penalty was imposed upon any who ate other than the pie.

Sweet Horror is a short story fantasy.

Orville Burch

Orville Burch has dedicated his entire life to peeling back the curtains on the windows of the unknown. Growing up on a rural farm surrounded by forests and streams prepared him for a career in natural science. He earned a PhD in biology, while exploring the natural relationships of community structure. With roots in the tri-racial Melungeon people of the Appalachians, his interests in their life lead him to study with Native American elders and to travel and interact with several African-tribes. This resulted in the development of Warrior-Theme self-help based on ancient wisdom applied to the modern times: I Warrior. His interest in the unknown took him on adventures hunting cryptids, ghosts, and UFOs. He now writes paranormal fiction. He is the author of twenty-five peer-reviewed scientific articles, paranormal fiction, and self-help nonfiction. He currently lives in Pennsylvania where he writes, researches, and investigates the paranormal.

Author’s Bio: Orville Burch has a PhD in Biology. Orville is a scientist, with over twenty-five peer-reviewed publications and reports. He has presented at professional conferences twenty times; twice as the keynote speaker. He is an entrepreneur, writer, and motivational speaker. He started hunting cryptids when he was very young. He now researches the paranormal and does occasional investigations.

Dedication: Orville wants to thank his wife, Terry, who is the ultimate fan of the old B-horror movies, and the new ones. Together, we have seen them all. I also want to acknowledge the support from our family of dogs and cats, many of which are directly responsible for any typographical errors.

Children settle down. Take your seat. I’ll share with you about a time long ago. A time before the Pilgrims came to America. A time before Thanksgiving.

There was that time. It might be hard to imagine. But it is true. Back then, people didn’t know how to celebrate, or even give thanks. They believed that everything they wanted or needed should be given to them. They didn’t want to work. They just wanted more and more.

At this time lived the great King Pieman. He was kind and did his best, but he had
