An Open Letter to My Sons, and the Power of Prayer: The Life and Love of a 60-Year-Old Single Father Raising Two Toddlers

About this ebook
Someone asked me why I write. Well, I write first and
foremost for my kids. Secondly, I write because I have
a true story to tell: Some call it a testimony about
God's grace and mercy, a story of redemption.
From the past to the present, my life remains an open
book for all to witness. From tears of pain to tears of
joy. I write for my sons. However, if my words and/or
experiences inspire any others, then so be it.
We are all products of our own individual experiences,
no matter how unfortunate they may or may not be.
However, I have left no excuses in my particular case
and it's imperative that I keep the story of my past
front and center. And if I don't, history may very well
repeat itself. #nottoday

My name is Nate M., and below is a collection of my inner thoughts over the past few years during my experience raising my two sons, King and Nate IV. Each section will list a specific topic that is often on my mind, followed by my thoughts relating to that topic. The following should be viewed as the expressions of love and life of a 60-year-old single father raising two sons.

Relationship With My Family
• I am no doubt my father’s son. I pray one day my sons will be just as proud to say the same.
• I often think of my mother and father and how things would be if they were still here. How proud they would be of their grand and great-grandchildren. My mother, being just as active and vocal as can be, and my father, laid back, legs crossed, full of pride… What a sight to behold.
• My mother had three sons, and now I have two sons myself. I often wonder whether or not my brothers and I took my parents through as much as my sons are taking me through. If so, then I need to say, in no uncertain terms, Mama, I’m sorry.
• What I regret most in my life is that my parents never got a chance to see me think and act like I had some sense. Boy, I wish they could see my sons and me now.
• If I can be half the man
