    As children we believe. We really have no other choice. Since we cannot fend for ourselves or teach ourselves, we must trust in others to care for us and teach us what and who to believe in.

    I remember as a child believing in Santa Claus because someone convinced me he existed. As time goes on, most of us learn that our parents are Santa because they are the ones that work hard to buy us gifts. They go to the store in the middle of the night while we are sleeping, sneak them in the house unbeknownst to us, and wrap them before placing them under the Christmas tree.

    If you had a chimney as a child, it must have been exciting to know that Santa was going to shimmy down and bring you gifts and eat the chocolate chip cookies you and your mother prepared for him.

    I remember my mother telling me, If you don’t behave, Santa is not going to bring you presents. It’s funny how every year as Christmas neared I remembered to always be on my best behavior. Because of this, I knew I was getting gifts and boy was I excited.

    There is an excitement that comes alive when we find something to believe in. There is a longing on the inside and a natural ability for us to believe and this starts during childhood. This is why the idea of faith starts with children. It is in their innocency and purity of thinking that they learn to believe.
