Ernie Fougere

Ernie Fougere was raised in a small hamlet in Nova Scotia. He and his wife, Joane, have two grown children, and five grandchildren. As a couple Ernie and Joane have traveled the world helping children at risk in the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. They lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for forty-two years, seven of which they spent helping the homeless on the streets of the city. Ernie Fougere and his wife currently live in Quebec City, Quebec.

PREFACE

This book that you are reading confirms where God tells the most astounding statement Jesus made about us as believers: I assure you and most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to my Father. John 14:12.

This is one of the most amazing promises Jesus ever gave to His believers. When we consider the works He did, such as healing the sick, curing leprosy, opening blind eyes and deaf ears, restoring crippled limbs, curing palsy and arthritis, walking invisibly right through an angry mob who wanted to kill Him, calming fierce storms on land and at sea, returning the violently insane back to normalcy, and yes, even raising the dead, what is our reaction to all of this? Was Jesus really, actually promising that we, you and I, would not only do these same works, but even greater works? Was He serious?

My answer to you is an emphatically resounding YES! as you will see as you continue reading this book.

In my previous book, We All Hear Voices, I told of many remarkable miracles that the Lord did for me. He helped me escape the mafia, when I thought I was hopelessly trapped, He enabled me to flee seriously demon-possessed people who came after me in Mexico to kill me, thereby saving me from jail, protecting me from severe violence and danger, even before I was saved.

But it didn’t end there. When I was miraculously born again, God continued to do radical miracles all the time and showed me that my job was simply to hear and obey His voice and rely on Him to do the impossible through me.

In the Book of Acts, we find Jesus’ apostles taking His absolutely amazing promise at face value and acting on it. Those first century disciples were able to do the same miracles that Jesus did, because they took seriously the all-important link between Jesus’ works and theirs.

Unfortunately, today most Christians are completely missing this powerful truth. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to all of us as His replacement. Though Jesus was divine by nature, the Word of God plainly tells us that He emptied Himself of His divinity, and became a human, just like you and me (Philippians 2:6-7). He became a human servant.

After Jesus’ resurrection, the disciples finally understood. They realized the purpose of Jesus’ humanity and utter dependence on God in a way few have grasped since.

They had witnessed Him become hungry and thirsty and often very tired and weary from the demanding crowds all around Him every day. They also knew how He was tempted in every way as we are, but without sinning. He was their perfect example.

But He told them His secret: I am able to do nothing by Myself, independently of my own accord, but only as I am taught by God, as I get His orders (John 5:30). It cannot be any different for us.

He also said in John 8:28-29, I do nothing by Myself, of My own accord, or on My own authority, but I say exactly what My Father has taught and told Me to say. My Father has not left Me alone, for I always do what pleases Him. That is also the only way we can do His works.

Again, in John12:50 Jesus said, Whatever I speak, I am saying exactly what my Father has told me to say and in accordance with His instructions. If we want His results, we have to do it the same way He did.

Finally, the most important truth is found in John 14:10: The Father that dwells in me, He does the works. He was conveying to them that He had no power to rely on in Himself but was completely dependent on His Father. So it is with us.

He said it was the same for them. In John 15:5, He said, Apart from me, you can do nothing. This is essential to remember.

Jesus wanted to make sure His disciples understood this very important truth before He went back to His Father. He wanted them just to believe and imitate Him, for He was only a channel for His Father’s power.

In other words, once Jesus ascended back to His Father, after He was no longer the human servant, but the glorified Lord and the crowned Christ, He gave us His unlimited power to accomplish His radical miracles and finish the works that He started.

It simply takes our obedience to His directions to accomplish His will. The Holy Spirit was the one who made it possible for Jesus to do His Father’s works. He sent the same Spirit to us, and He now makes it possible for us to do the same works, the same miracles that He did, and go on to even greater works, after we learn to depend on Him.

Let me ask one very important question: Why are we not doing His works today? I firmly believe that one of the primary reasons is that we do not realize we are the channels the Lord wants to use to finish the works that He started. We are not used to relying on Him because we haven’t believed His promise that He gave us all authority to do His works.

Another important reason is something we call Docetism, which is the denial of the real humanity of Jesus. After He had gone back to heaven, as the years went on, religion no longer saw Jesus as our Brother as His early disciples did. Today, Jesus has simply become a figure sculptured in marble to multitudes of people, painted in oils with a gilded halo, encased in stained-glass windows. To others He is still depicted as hanging on a wooden cross or as a baby in a manger.

By being in awe of a totally inaccessible Jesus, these people honestly believe they are honouring Him. But by taking out the Holy Spirit, the most important link between Jesus’ humanity and the Father, they don’t realize they are actually dishonouring Him, and so are we.

However, in spite of all this, Jesus’ promise is still there for us, if we believe that we can do the radical miracles He did and even greater works. What an honor He has given to us, if we will trust Him to do His works through us. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher, Counsellor, Advocate and Provider and is eager to lead us on and out into greater, new supernatural dimensions we have not yet experienced or hardly imagined.

The question that really needs an answer is: Are we fully committed to Him? If so, then we are in a position to receive His strength to accomplish absolutely impossible things as He did and give Him all the glory. Do we have the faith to believe and the courage to act? We have been given everything we need to accomplish such feats through Him. 

As Jesus so beautifully said, Not my will, Lord, but Yours be done in and through Me.

INTRODUCTION

I have experienced countless, radical miracles in what is known as the marketplace, the everyday world outside church buildings. Back in 2012, the Lord was speaking to me about not having written the book He had instructed me to do five years previously, regarding the many miracles He had done for us. Finally, after having repented of my disobedience, I proceeded to write the book in Australia, where we were visiting our children and grandchildren. I found a quiet place next to the ocean on the Sunshine Coast and every day I would spend at least four hours writing. I was finally committed to His task and after about three years and nine months of writing, my book was finally completed. As mentioned above, the name of that book was, We All Hear Voices.

The Lord divinely introduced me to an editor in Alberta and after having read my transcript, she called me and told me, I was so blessed by reading this remarkable transcript of your life story of walking with the Lord, the Holy Spirit prompted me to charge you a better price than what I usually charge others. She then introduced me to her cousin who professionally prepared the inside and outside design, made all the arrangements for publishing, and that same year, 2015, my book was published.

When we obey the Lord, He gets involved to see the finished product come to fruition. He doesn’t need our help to fulfill His plan; He only needs our obedience. Over the years I have learned that once I do what the Lord asks me to do, He then takes the responsibility of producing its purpose for my life and accomplishes it in and through me. This became a great revelation for me, and all my life He has done exactly that, over and over again, all to His glory. He is an awesome God.
