This story takes place immediately after the events of The Darkstone Pleasure and is the second installment of The Darkstone Saga.

    After the Yrswor: Edgar

    The

Yrswor had been a success. An astounding success. Somehow, in spite of my physical exhaustion, she was lighter now than she’d been earlier in the evening.

When I parted from Gareth, he lingered a bit in the ceremony hall. As different as things would now be for me and Imelda, they would change for Gareth drastically, as well. I only regretted that I wouldn’t be able to speak to him for longer. Still, we’d planned this dynamic since we were young. And Gareth would have plenty of responsibilities to keep him occupied.

Imelda wrapped her arms around my neck as I carried her. She gave drowsy smile. Are we going to bed? she asked.

Her voice sounded angelic. She was practically still asleep. She just didn’t realize it yet. The events of the day, of the last few weeks, had exhausted her. She needed more rest than ever because tomorrow would offer no respite, either.

I took her to her own bedroom. Whether I took her to my bed or to hers, she would surely read into my actions. But she needed to know that she was still her own person. She was not sacrificing her independence by being with me. As long as she wanted it, she would have her own bed.

    Awakenings: Imelda

Iawoke with the blanket bunched between my legs. It was damp. My face flushed as I remembered my dream last night. And it flushed even more when I thought of the events from last night’s ceremony.

I vaguely remembered being carried in Edgar’s arms. I’d assumed he was bringing me to our bedroom, but he was nowhere to be found. What room, then, was this?

Stone walls were draped with purple fabric. On the wall above the bed was suspended a large, arched, ornate mirror. The bed itself was large enough to fit four people comfortably, perhaps five, with wooden pillars extending upward from each corner. It was piled with decorative pillows of purple, white, and rich fuchsia. The window revealed the village and distant hills, vivid in the evening light.

I threw myself back onto my pillow, arms tossed over my head, and smiled. We’d performed the ceremony. I was still hot with desire, writhing slowly in the blankets, and the ceremony was fulfilled. That made me queen. Now, I wasn’t sure if that role took immediate effect, or what other bureaucratic steps needed to be taken, but I didn’t care. I didn’t even care about the title, really. I’d taken a risk, I’d embarked on a journey only a handful of women have experienced, and I was elevated. My life would be forever changed.

    And I’d found love.

My legs kicked wildly with excitement, and I found I was laughing aloud with giddiness. Prince Edgar. He’d been so gentle, so generous, yet so damn erotic. And Gareth. Gentle Gareth, who’d filled
