    It seemed like a good idea at the time.

    Famous last words, I suppose, but it really did. I had no way of knowing – well, you’ll see.

    It started with the mirror. When Stepmother heard that village girls were using dwarf charms to enhance their beauty, she bought a magic mirror from the neighboring kingdom to trace the enchantments and track them down. She brushed me off when I asked what was so bad about dwarf magic. She was too busy spending time with Prince Charn, who had delivered the mirror in person and volunteered to stay and teach her how to use it.

    Delivering magical goods was a job far beneath royalty, so I suspected Prince Charn had an ulterior motive. Maybe he had come to spy
