    Wisdom of Self – Ever Free Song

    Nondualistic (Advaita) Vedanta by Dattatreya Avadhuta

    In English Rhyme

    Chapter 1. Wisdom of The Self

    It is just by the grace of God truly,

    Arises within knowledge of Unity,

    Then a person released at last be,

    From the fear of life and death fully.

    All existing in this form world clearly,

    Nothing but Self – the Self alone be,

    Then how Infinite worship Itself truly?

    Shiv one undivided whole is surely!

    Five elements composing world be,

    As in desert mirage is water illusory,

    To whom should I bow my head truly?

    I, myself, am the stainless One clearly!

    All this universe is only my Self truly;

    It neither divided nor undivided be,

    How can I even assert it existing be?

    I view it with wonder and awe only!

    What heart of the highest truth be,

    Knowledge core, wisdom supremacy?

    It "I the Self, the formless One be;

    By my nature, I pervading all fully."

    That one God shinning in all be,

    Formless like cloudless sky be,

    Pure, stainless, Self of all truly,

    Without doubt, that is who I be.

    I the infinite, immutable One be;

    Pure Consciousness, formless be,

    I know not how, or to whom clearly,

    Joy, sorrow in this world seen be.

    With no mental, physical, verbal be,

    I neither good nor bad karma surely,

    I beyond senses; I pure nectar be,

    Of the knowledge of the Self clearly.

    The mind formless like the sky be,

    Yet it wearing a million faces surely,

    Seen as past images, forms worldly,

    But it not the supreme Self does be.

    I am One; all of this in actuality,

    Yet identical, beyond forms be,

    How, then, do I regard Self truly?

    As both Unmanifest, manifest be.

    You, the One! Why not knowing be?

    You unchanging Self, same in all be,

    You illimitable, all-pervading Light be,

    How distinction amid day, night be?

    Know that Self continuous Being be,

    One within all, without division surely,

    I subject and object of meditation be,

    How two seen in That which One be?

    Birth nor death pertain to you do be,

    You have not been any kind of body,

    All is Brahman – it well known be,

    Scriptures so saying in various ways be.

    You which both inside and out be,

    You Shiv; all and everywhere be,

    Why, then, you so deluded be?

    Running as a scared ghost plainly?

    There no such thing as union be,

    Nor separation for you or for me,

    No me, you; no manifold world be,

    All is the Self, the Self alone solely.

    You not heard, smelled, nor tasted be,

    You not seen, nor touch sensed be,

    You are the true definitive Reality;

    Why, then, should you troubled be?

    Birth, death, nor active mind surely,

    Nor bondage, liberty, affecting you be,

    Why then do you so grieving but be?

    You and I have no name or form truly.

    O Mind, why you so deluded do be?

    Why you running as scared ghost be?

    Become aware of indivisible Self fully!

    Rid attachment; be happy and free!

    You unchanging Essence of all be,

    Boundless Freedom, unmoving Unity;

    You not attachment nor aversion be,

    Why you succumb to desire, worry?

    All scriptures declare unanimously,

    Pure, formless, undifferentiated Reality,

    That the Essence of all the forms be,

    There is no doubt about this certainly.

    All forms just manifestations of you be

    Only formless Essence exists eternally,
