Eddies Of Life - Munindra Misra

    Introduction

Munindra (Munnan) Misra started writing in 1970 - subsequent to the demise of his mother, Smt. Gayatri Devi.

The divisions in this book are based on the period when they were written – depicting his thoughts during each of those time spans

    .

    1970 - 2007 - 1. Love & Strength 2. Humanity & Peace

    2008 - 3. War, Peace & Action

    2009 - 2013 - 4. Ditties On Life

    1. Love & Strength (1970 – 2007)

    1.01 My Prayer

No stone may turn when I walk,

No being may pain when I talk,

No man may dread of my knock,

And this I ask of You to stock.

    1 - 1

    1.02 My Father

    He is a man immortal,

He is a man not passable,

    He is a man unique,

He is a man with technique.

    2 - 1

He is kind, he is pure,

He is simple, he is sure,

He is generous and a genius,

He is gentle and a serious.

    3 - 1

He is my father and no more,

He is my love that’s for sure,

He is the candle with the light,

Which shows the path of my life.

    4 - 1

    1.03 Smoke

The soul of fire rises from its pyre,

Shades deeper does it go shyer,

    Effortlessly meandering its way higher,

Into nothingness - yet from every fire.

    5 - 1

    1.04 Silent Death

    With cries unheard,

    With tearless tears,

    With wrought un-thought,

The leaf did sway and drop.

    6 - 1

    A thick thicker than thickest,

Where not a ray does peep,

No leaf to touch or stone,

    But shed with soundless moan.

    7 - 1

    The merciless sun does beat,

The life which is so sweet,

    And leaves it standing bare,

    Naked – none to care.

    8 - 1

    The leaf crumples and drops,

    As sun mercilessly chops,

    To mix with soil below,

    Dried, crushed – No growth!

    9 - 1

1.05 Labour Of Great Be Shared – Not Their Spoils

The low and humble, high and great,

Labouring together - achievement at stake,

Egypt - labours and Pharaohs did make,

    Pyramids - proclaiming Pharaohs great.

    10 - 1

The seven wonders of our world,

    Owe aspiring, lacking in words,

Are said to be the make of you,

    Pharaohs, Mughals or kingly few.

    11 - 1

Have not the low too joint hands?

Have not the humble made the strands?

Have the others ground their sand?

To create these wonder - make the stand?

    12 - 1

The labour of the great be shared,

By one and all - they may pair,

But rewards are not to be touched,

Spoils for great - rest are crushed.

    13 - 1

1.06 Little By Little Does The Trick

    Even the smallest does count,

Little or small has its sound,

A drop of water or a stick,

A thin thread or a brick.

    14 - 1

Drops of water fill the ocean,

    Small bricks make a house,

    Together sticks or thin thread,

Show strength and load do bear.

    15 - 1

Alone it is difficult to stand,

    Unity gives strength that’s grand,

It is the small – little by little,

Doing tricks – strength from brittle.

    16 - 1

1.07 A Step Ahead Is A Leap Ahead

    In every stage of life,

    Every day and night,

    Man be measured and scaled,

    Examined every inch and blade.

    17 - 1

    With every break of dawn,

    Man steps on new ground,

    Forward or backward drawn,

    Measured on every bound.

    18 - 1

    Thus every minute and hour,

    Man should check his power,

    Moving towards his tower,

    With soul and spirit humbler.

    19 - 1

    1.08 Appearances Are Deceptive

The heat, the waves, the dusty days,

    Endless sand and hard-hitting rays,

Have shown travellers on their way,

Mirages that caused them to sway.

    20 - 1

They were lost in things imaginary,

Were fooled away from the reality,

    What seemed to exist apparently,

Were but the shadows of cruelty.

    21 - 1

    Have in hand the substances,

    Not shadows sought graspingly,

    Be not deceived by appearances,

    But look for the reality.

    22 - 1

1.09 Dig Evil At The Seed Or It Will Dig You

    What seed be sown,

    The plant will grow,

    What work be done,

    The reward is won.

    23 - 1

    The seed of evil,

    No matter what,

    Grows for ruin,

    For that’s sought.

    24 - 1

    Destroy this seed,

    Before it grows,

    Ruin will beget,

    If it be sowed.

    25 - 1

Let it be Man of any stand,

What’s sowed – grows and expands,

Let no evil seed be there,

    Remove it with utmost care.

    26 - 1

    1.10 Helping Hands

    Divine – it’s helping hand,

    With its trumpeting band,

    Arrives to make its stand,

    Oh! Its performance grand.

    27 - 1

    Coming of cold winter,

    Causing all to shiver,

    Summer not far behind,

    With sun the restorer.

    28 - 1

    The plants in the summer,

    Dry up in scorching heat,

    Then comes the soothing rains,

And water that is so sweet.

    29 - 1

    A living being be thirsty,

    Shivering from the cold,

    Or extremely dirty,

    Hurdled up and old.

    30 - 1

Let us not be just lame,

Clasp our hand in this game,

    Helping the destitute around,

    Every needy life that’s bound.

    31 - 1

    1.11 Childhood’s Dream

The buds got nourished and ripened,

    Into flowers beautifully brightened,

    Flowers – multi-coloured flowers,

Not a step without her showers.

    32 - 1

    It surrounded the vision around,

    Burning with melodious sound,

    Churning the calm air around,

    Itching with ecstasy unbound.

    33 - 1

Thoughts were at such a stage,

    Shadows and light would break,

    Not touching brightness unbound,

Too inadequate to fault her down.

    34 - 1

The flower - its beauty did peek,

    Plucked away with sorrows deep,

    Leaving its fragrance to seep,

    Everlasting - a dream - a cheat.

    35 - 1

    The childhood dream one sees,

    Infrequently ever matures to be,

    The cherished goals with sincerity,

    Be crushed with matured cruelty.

    36 - 1

Only those in life really gain,

Who choose the life’s real aim,

    Diligently following the same,

    Not lost in childhood games.

    37 - 1

The glow of all stages in life,

Be lost as gloom does arise

That life, youth, age are cries,

When nothing is now a prize.

    38 - 1

The life full of sweet dreams,

Ends - and one wishes to team,

With BLISS - that eternal bliss,

    Hoping Lord’s grace would kiss.

    39 - 1

    1.12 A Fairy's Tale

The children go hand in hand,

    Shouting screaming in jolly band,

To watch the animal world grand,

In ample nature – at every stand.

    40 - 1

A fairy to them tells a tale,

How an ant, rat or snail,

    Bird, animal, fish or whale,

Perceives in life not to fail.

    41 - 1

Oh Children! Do not just see,

    Comprehend all with ability,

And you shall grasp with clarity,

    These treasures for your jubilee

    42 - 1

    (i) BASIC

    1 Survival Of The Fittest

The foremost law of this world,

Do not doubt a single word,

    Has been the real survival,

Of the fittest – their revival.

    43 - 1

    2 Strong Eats The Weak

    The lion shall always eat,

    The weak and feeblest meat,

    The dinosaur shall even die,

    Be it eighty feet high.

    44 - 1

    3 Habits

See the spider weave its web,

Slow and constant, not an ebb,

Let you habits ever so grow,

From web to cable - your life glow.

    45 - 1

    Watch that small insect there,

    Shinning black, minute and bare,

Six feet and feelers a pair,

    Working diligently with care.

    46 - 1

    They are ants forever striving,

    Working hard, ceaselessly toiling,

    Collecting food, lifelong driving,

    For day of necessity preparing.
