Awaiting Genesis - Jesse R. Kondratenko
The Puzzle in Me
Sharp pieces of time invade,
The agony of their reality does not fade,
Wanting to push them further in,
So the eyes cannot see my pain,
These Sharp pieces can evoke a smile,
Not the pain but their elegant style,
Positioned so carefully,
That I won’t let them shatter out,
Placed so neatly,
But I still cannot figure them out,
These shards of life are a puzzle,
A puzzle burrowed in my person,
Am I meant to put them together,
Or if I do will the pain worsen?
This one is full of joy,
And this one, not so cheery,
This one is dark,
And this one makes my eyes weary,
Sometimes I dwell over the obvious ones,
The over-exhilarating and anger making pieces,
Blood seeps from their entrances,
And I feel their glee or woe,
Whatever it is,
I feel the piece coming out of me,
Not really, they were not finally leaving,
The changing of those pieces was deceiving,
They grew on the outside,
And no matter how I pulled and pried,
They are not going to leave,
Now is the time to put together what I know,
And now is the time to accept that these,
Pieces so revealing of me,
Won’t leave.
A Winter Whisper
They search for me where snow falls white,
foot compacts the crystal and beaks the branch,
They breathe vapor against the black night,
And quest to find my soul beneath the avalanche,
Nay doeth my spirit dwell in this cold land,
Though an apparition has been beheld,
It smiled, tarried about, and touched your hand,
Yet all was ethereal in what you felt,
Dare I say that I stand in the most visible place,
With a heart that shall be sewn tightly closed,
Dare I declare, that I am where God’s sunlight does grace,
Under it, by the clearest water, I am peacefully reposed,
I live so cold while this exile remains in place,
And so warm within until the end of days.
Circumstance
The ashes built a small pile below,
I coveted the last few drags,
Rain splashes away the piles, we go,
Famished, I carry the plastic bags,
The magic wand of circumstance came close,
I faltered in despond, what was close now goes,
I summoned a little bit of strength,
To not have to use magic,
I travel, on my own, this journeys’ length,
Despite an ending tragic,
Let me scream up to the heavens,
Let me let myself,
The points are sharp,
They invade my flesh with a slight intrusion,
The points are invisible,
my visage is downtrodden,
even at a joyous occasion,
my prayer to the world is that these edges dull,
my hymn to myself is that I can live louder than this lull,
ages ago when fear did not choke me,
ages ago when this passive climate had not
