You Need Your Space
Let your mind reach far and beyond, around and above what is least expected of you.
Live your life so that you will enjoy looking into the mirror, the reflection of your shadow smiling as you pat yourself on the back.
Your unspoken thoughts belong to you and only you until you verbally express them or until your physical behavior exposes them.
Some say I have a warped sense of humor.
I describe it as my vivid imagination being creative.
—Carlette Lisenby
Introduction
I find poetry to be a mixture of sorts. Creative writing of one’s imagination mixed with facts, fiction, spiritual beliefs, and horrors hidden well behind the walls of the mind.
Sometimes it blocks the violent tendencies of the unthinkable from appearing on the forefront. Then again, sometimes it releases those violent tendencies of the unthinkable for all to see.
Some thoughts should never be released into the world. A conscious decision should always override unspoken thoughts or actions of malice.
Secure the thoughts of malice by keeping the lips sealed together and breathing slowly and deeply until those thoughts return to the hidden walls of the mind.
Some assume poetry is made up of unexplainable thoughts expressed by the writer. But the writer assumes poetry consists of understandable thoughts shared between the writer and the readers.
It should be interesting to see how your imagination interprets what you read printed on these pages.
A flight of the imagination is a great way to temporarily escape life’s hectic demands, but the bumpy landing always delivers us right back to reality.
Proceed with caution. We do not think alike.
A Developing Seed
39468.jpgConception begins through you.
Transformation ends with me.
An understandably strong grip.
Releasing must come naturally.
Your molding will unquestionably have a significant impact,
Yet I will be held accountable for the final outcome.
Years of hand-holding, years of direction pointing,
Years of comforting, years of falling down
Followed by years of struggling to stand again.
Mistakes will be countless.
Numerous decisions to contemplate.
Maybe this, maybe that.
Maybe today, maybe tomorrow.
Wrong turns, wrong paths,
Wrong choices, wrong contacts.
Sometimes failure, sometimes despair.
Sometimes rejection, sometimes excuses.
Compare me to him. Compare me to her.
That was his way, and that was her way.
This is me with my own special way.
Never disobedient, never disrespectful.
Completion has arrived. Graduation is granted.
Standing tall, head high,
Going forward on a strong foundation.
Much praise received. Much love returned.
All it took was you allowing me to evolve into me.
Ain’t Ain’t Ain’t
38470.jpgAin’t got time for no lies.
Give me truth and be done with it.
Ain’t got time for gossip.
Just talk about what you know.
Ain’t got time for loveless human beings.
Hug me for an emotional bond.
Ain’t no need for you to pat me on the back.
It’s known you helped put a knife there to keep me down.
Ain’t got time for flowers at my funeral service when I’m dead,
Hell, I won’t even know you gave me flowers … I’m dead.
Ain’t got time to sleep until noon.
Seeing the night change into day is a blessing.
Ain’t got time to be sitting in no shade.
I need the sun beaming on this skin
