    The ballerina with the funny face, Audrey Hepburn brought joy to legions of fans for decades both in her iconic cinematic career and, later as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations. She understood early, from a difficult youth spent growing up in Nazi occupied Holland, that life ought to be filled with love and happiness. After the war, she moved to London, the city of her father, where she worked hard to become a dancer and an actress. After a few films for Ealing Studio, she was snatched up by Hollywood and, in 1961, she became the most famous party girl of all time, Holly Golightly, in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

    Audrey was never known for wild excess but she did love fun. She even brought her adopted baby deer, Pippen, to parties with her. Always happy to celebrate others, Ms. Hepburn also sang Happy Birthday to John F. Kennedy the year after Marilyn Monroe! This is not surprising given that the two briefly dated while the President was an unmarried Senator. But Audrey was more likely to be found celebrating special events and birthdays surrounded by her children. For the world’s most elegant woman and muse to Parisian fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, her pleasures were remarkably simple. Things like walking her pet Yorkie, Mr. Famous, around Rome or hiking near her retreat in Switzerland were to her the good things in life.
