Carlita and LeRoy were married for over 30 years and were still in love. They had a wonderful life together and valued each other’s opinion and friendship.

Unfortunately, LeRoy was diagnosed with Stage 3 Metastatic Lung Cancer in December of 2021 which tested their strength, faith and courage.

The cancer diagnosis took a toll on their marriage but not their faith. Everything in life is a lesson or a blessing.

Chapter 1

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer.

Father God in the mighty name of Jesus, I thank you for bringing me to a place of peace, comfort, and calmness. I thank you, Lord, for helping me to be still so that I can hear a word from you.

LeRoy and I were happily married on Saturday, July 23, 1988. We were about to celebrate our thirty-third wedding anniversary. We always made sure to do something special every year. We took turns planning the festivities.

More often than not, we would make an entire weekend of it. Sometimes, we went out of town; and other times, we enjoyed various restaurants and sites in our hometown Chicago, Illinois.

It was the beginning of September, and my husband and I were making plans to have a thirty-fifth wedding anniversary party. Of course, that was two years away; but as a special events and meeting coordinator, I never do anything at the last minute. We discussed the venue, table setting, floral arrangements, music, food, entertainment, and master or mistress of ceremonies.
