Falling for Her Fake Boyfriend - Ann King

FALLING FOR HER FAKE BOYFRIEND #6

One passionate night. One hot kiss with her sexy neighbor. Her life would never be the same again.

The shocking conclusion to this six-part steamy serial.  Holly Jackson no longer knows what is real or what is fake with the gorgeous, mysterious Evan Knights after he reveals his darkest secret. As her personal life falls to pieces, she has to make a decision that can change her future. Can two lost souls find true love and peace together?

    Chapter 1

Holly felt her throat close up with emotion. Her ears burned. She could not have heard what she thought she heard. She was standing at the pier looking at gorgeous Evan Knights, yet he seemed like a stranger.

A dark shadow slid across his handsome face.

    W-what did you say?

    "I said, I didn’t kill Aaron. I am Aaron."

B-but how c-could this be? She grabbed large chunks of her hair in both hands, feeling dazed. Lost. Th-that’s impossible. I...I just don’t get it, Evan. Why? How?

    Her heart exploded inside her.

How could Evan be Aaron? It didn’t make any sense. Here he was her fake boyfriend for a time and yet, his past was a fake, wasn’t it? All this time he was like somebody else, a total stranger—a lie.

She didn’t think she could recover from this. No way. She placed her palm on her forehead, the pressure inside her mind was too much right now.

Holly, he said, gently, inching closer toward her.

But instinctively she stepped back, leaning into the railing with her back pressed against it, still in an emotional daze. A thick London fog was nothing compared to the fog inside her mind. Nothing made sense that she could see. There was a dark cloud of confusion hovering over her.

    I...I don’t understand. Who are you? I...I can’t trust you, Evan. I...

Shh, I had to do this, Holly.

    But why?

He glanced off into the distance, his eyes fixed on the water, as if the water would hold the answers. But in a way, it did, didn’t it? His brother’s remains were somewhere out there. The real Evan Rockwell Knights.

You want to hear the truth? The whole truth?

Yes. Yes, I do, Evan. I want to hear the truth for a change. The whole truth.

He pressed his hands on the railing again and peered into the river as it glistened under the moon lit sky.

He drew in a deep sigh. I’ve never told anyone this. But I’m telling you for the first time.

    Chills ran up her spine.

Was she prepared for what he was going to reveal to her? Could she really handle the truth? It would seem that having a fake relationship was so much easier than a real one right now.

I’m listening, she said, breathless as the wind tussled her hair, blowing it into her face.

    I am Aaron.

So you stole Evan’s identity? she whispered.

    No.

    No?

No. My full name at birth was Aaron Evan Rockwell. After that fateful night at the lake, I had to pretend to be Evan, but technically, I was using my middle name as my first name. That’s what I convinced myself, anyway.

    But why, Evan? Why?

I had no choice. Evan was a bully. He was a con. He took out his cell phone and scrolled on the screen through his online photo album. He then showed her a revealing photograph.

    Holly’s jaw dropped open.

As you can see, he said, pulling out his cell phone and flipping the screen to an online photo album. Evan and I looked alike. Too much alike. Of course, our real parents would have been able to tell the difference. But at the group home, they didn’t really care. We were just the Rockwell brothers.

The resemblance is incredible, Holly whispered in awe as she glanced at the screen of his cell phone. She had heard of siblings looking almost identical like twins but this was jaw-dropping.

Her eyes surveyed the way the brothers looked. She couldn’t really tell them apart. They’d styled their hair the same way. Same dark features, dark eyes, strong bone structure, eyebrows. Everything. They were practically alike in every way. Except...

In the photograph Aaron had a terrible scar on his right arm.

I see you notice the scar, he said, his eyes penetrating her as she stared at the image on his cell phone.

Yes. What happened there? she asked quietly.

Evan decided he was going to control me. He knifed me one day after we’d gotten into an argument. Told me he’d kill me if I ever cross him again.

    Oh, no, Evan...Aaron, that’s awful.

You can still call me Evan. Like I said, it’s my middle name. We were both named after our grandfather, a War hero. Evan got Gramp’s name as his first name and mom decided I’d get granddad’s name as my middle name so that he’d live on through us. At least that’s what she’d told us when we were kids.

    I see.

Holly glanced at his right arm where his beautiful tattoos covered his silky smooth skin. Now she knew why he had his tats done. He needed to ink himself to cover his past, to cover his tracks, to establish a new identity.

Anyway, I was terrified of him. He was callous and cruel.

Evan, I’m so sorry that you went through all that. She could just imagine a young boy having lost his parents and controlled by his monstrous older brother.

Evan drew in a deep breath as if this was as painful for him to say as it was for her to hear. Abuse of any kind was horrific. No wonder he found it hard to trust anyone.

He used to have me write his exams.

He used to do what? Why? How?

Easy, I would show up to most of his classes, just switch outfits and go in as him and write them.

    Holly swallowed hard. Terror
