CASSIDY

The last stretch of the plane ride was beginning to show the majestic beauty of the land I was about to see and visit for the first time. I still couldn’t believe that we were going to the heart of the Rocky Mountains to where Abe’s bear shifter clan primarily resided.

His excitement to show me Jackson Hole, Yellowstone National Park and the area surrounding it was endearing. There was a lot of pride in him and I immediately tuned into the sacredness of the land, how important it was to him and the level of devotion he had for his home terrain. He knew all of the local history, and was eager to share it with me.

My excitement had built too. Having always been a city girl, one who’d barely ever camped until recently, I found I was warming up to the idea of possibly living in the rural beauty of the Grand Tetons. I could never give up my big city life, as I loved Boston way too much to ever consider leaving it permanently, but the idea of living part of the year here seemed plausible.

On top of my excitement was the nervousness of meeting Abe’s clan members. He’d explained over and over again that bear folk like a lot of distance amongst one another and that they lived very differently from the wolf shifter packs in the region.

Being a writer, an author – I liked my space, and privacy. As it was, I had a hard time with the idea of living with another person. Truth was, I’d yet lived with a significant other. Abe was the first man I’d considered doing so, with.

You doing okay? Abe asked, resting his hand on my thigh and squeezing it gently.

I sucked in a deep breath, Yes, just excited. I can’t believe how beautiful it is. It’s like heaven on earth from what I can tell from this tiny window.

Wait until you see it in person, on the ground. The peaks really take one’s breath away, he shared proudly.

I liked listening to him share about his homeland, there was so much pride and dare I say, even a sacred reverence.

Abe leaned in to me and planted a sweet kiss on my cheek. I turned to look at him and we held one another’s gaze. I kept wanting someone to pinch me. To remind me that I was awake and this really was my waking reality. Because half of the time, I felt like I was in a dream. A very good dream. One of the sexiest men I’d ever met was my man. As in, my boyfriend. My partner.
