Chapter 1

The BIG Scare

Cock-a-doodle-doo, cock-a-doodle-doo-doodle-doo-doodle-dooooooo. I slowly start to open my eyes, and then shut them again as I groan. I stick my arm out and keep hitting my nightstand table as I try to find the crowing rooster alarm. I grab the rooster around the neck and push him back in the barn. No more cock-a-doodle-dooing from you this morning, Mr. Rooster.

I rub my eyes and yawn. I see my clothes that I laid out last night. My practice uniform reminds me that today is the first day of practice! I hop out of bed and put on my new volleyball shorts and t-shirt. I have been waiting forever to finally be old enough to play volleyball! I am so excited to get to know my coaches and teammates. I am also eager to learn how to spike the volleyball like the players I see on TV. It looks so awesome!

Hey, Riley Madison, are you up? my mom yells.
