About this ebook

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. ""Ephesians 4:1""3 (NIV) LILY: Well, amen, Kimbriah! I guess Grandma Dotty's not the only one with verses up her sleeve! KIMBRIAH: Nope! I think that verse perfectly words what you learned in this book, Lily. LILY: Definitely! Don't be too quick to judge. Try to see everyone in a positive light. I had to deal with some cold people in this book. For example, Scarlett, the new guest at the Thanksgiving dinner, didn't even want to shake my hand. And Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Finley's evil sister, tried to steal her sister's private journal! Putting that word into practice was hard! KIMBRIAH: Yup! But you dealt with them well! As Christians, we need to make an extra effort to love everyone. You learned how to see the best in even those who are difficult, and that is the meaning of God's love. I don't think we can say much more than that in this summary, so in that case... LILY: Enjoy this book and stay tuned for more fun in Grandma Dotty 3: Christmas Chaos!

    Preface

Hey, readers! It’s Lily again! It’s currently mid-November, and it’s almost Thanksgiving!

As soon as I finished my last journal, I IMMEDIATELY asked my mom for another one. Every time she went to the store, she would say that she was going to get me one, but she kept on forgetting. It got to the point where I had to make a HUGE sign, saying, BUY ME A JOURNAL, PLEASE, and stick it onto the fridge. And even that STILL didn’t work until, finally, Grandma Dotty decided to buy a new journal for me. Now, here we are!

Don’t know if you remember, but Grandma Dotty and I weren’t always the best of friends. We used to absolutely despise each other, but we’ve gotten past it. Grandma Dotty lives with us now. I know we had our differences before, but we’re actually really good friends. The fact that we’re family makes our bond even stronger.

She has definitely brought a lot of energy into our house, especially since it’s the holiday season. She’s already decorating the house with her own custom-made ornaments and Christmas lights. As I’m writing, she’s currently in her room making stockings for everyone in the family.

In other news, school is back in session! I just started sixth grade, and I’m happy to announce that Mrs. Finley, my teacher from last year, is teaching sixth grade too! I sadly don’t have her as my teacher, but who knows? Maybe that’ll change…

    Acknowledgments

First and foremost, I would like to thank God for sticking with me, loving me, protecting me, etc.

I would like to also thank my parents, my little brother, and the rest of my family for supporting me.

I want to acknowledge Angel and Ishman, whom I promised in seventh grade to mention in this book. I haven’t talked to you since then, and I don’t know if you’ll ever even see this, but I’m a woman of my word.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

    —Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

And without further ado, enjoy this book!

    Chapter 1

    At Home

    BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

    I groggily opened my eyes.

    BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

What is that? A fire alarm?

    BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

Wait. If it’s a fire alarm, that means there’s a fire.

    BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

And if there’s a fire, that means I have to leave the house, leave my bed.

    BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

But my bed is so comfy…

    BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

    Fine.

I got up and trudged out of bed. Now, where’s this fire?

    BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

The beeping is coming from behind.… Oh! My alarm. Of course.

I turned off my alarm and headed to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth, took a shower, and changed. I reluctantly shoved my uniform on and walked down the stairs. I knew that my mom was taking my little brother Michael to school, so I expected my dad to be cooking breakfast. But, to my surprise, it was Grandma Dotty.

Hey, Grandma Dotty! I said. She looked at me with a raised eyebrow.

Hi? I tried again. She gave me a look. I sighed.

Good morning, Grandma Dotty! Oh, great grandma, I thank you for—

Stop. I get it, she said, chuckling. Good morning to you too.

    Pancakes? I asked.

    Pancakes, she answered.

Yes! I said as I sat down at the table.

My middle school starts at 9:45, so I have all morning to mess around on my computer or study if I need to. On that morning, though, I just wasn’t feeling it. I figured I would write a little bit in my journal to pass the time:

    November 12

I thought the transition from elementary school to middle school would be hard. In elementary school, you have only one class with the same people all year. In my middle school, you have six classes (I heard some schools even have eight). In every class, there are different teachers, different people, and different subjects. It’s a new experience every hour. Exhausting but fun.

I expected my middle school to be filled with groups of mean girls and jocks and nerds like there are in the books, but it wasn’t. There are some people that are slightly more popular than others, but everyone has a place somewhere. It all balances out.

That does NOT mean that everything in middle school is perfect. Definitely not.

There are kids running through the hallways, playing tag, and doing whatever they want. They probably still think they’re in fifth grade, but wake up! This is middle school! No more recess. Lunch is recess! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost gotten run over by boys and girls chasing each other in the hallway, but I do know that it’s been TOO MANY! Those kids are so ANNOYING.

I remember the days of fifth grade. Remember my teacher? Mrs. Finley? I STILL can’t believe Mrs. Williams is her sister. How can they come from the same family? Mrs. Finley is so sweet and gentle, while Mrs. Williams is…not. Two completely opposite people that are somehow related. Life is weird.

Pancakes are done! I heard Grandma Dotty say from the kitchen.

    Already? I answered. Coming!

Don’t know how she did it, but Grandma Dotty already finished making pancakes. Gotta go eat! Write in ya later!

I put my journal down and ran to the kitchen. I was about to begin devouring my stack of pancakes when Grandma Dotty interrupted me.

Nope! What do you say? she said.

I’m hungry! I said. She gave me a look and I sighed again.

Thanks, Grandma Dotty! Your pancakes are the greatest of the great! You are the best cook ever, oh great grandma! I would really love to— Grandma Dotty interrupted me again.

Okay, I get it, she said. Now hurry up! It’s almost time for you to go to school.

Wha.… Oh! I glanced at the time, realizing that it was already 9:00! I normally leave at around 9:05 to try to beat the traffic every morning.

    I
