    Chapter 1

    My Family

Mom keeps putting my toys in boxes! Is this a new game? I scratch at the boxes and cry out, Let’s play with Pig Pig! I push my nose into the box, but it doesn’t open. I try to push at the side and top, but there is sticky stuff blocking my way in, and it won’t let me!

Sam and Cassie are putting stuff in boxes too. Things don’t feel right. I smell the air and look around. My home is out of order. My blanket is still on my bed, so I bury my face in it. I feel better right away. I take another big sniff and let the scent wash over me. My insides calm down and I’m less nervous.

I hear Cassie’s door open and I run super fast to meet her. Is it walking time? She doesn’t move, but I see her eyes start to water. I push my side against her legs and she sits next to me on the floor, a sad smile on her face.

Her arms wrap around my neck. She isn’t acting right, and I can feel something wrong inside her. I make my worried noise, to let her know I’m here to help. We’re family, I whine softly. Her eyes make even more water as she looks at me. She buries her face in my fur, and her body starts shaking.

Wubbs, I’m really going to miss you, she says really quietly as if she doesn’t want anyone to hear. I hope you’re going to like it over there. She makes a bad, sad sound and I press my nose on her skin, which usually makes her giggle. Something is very wrong, I can sense sorrow in the air.

    Her arms hold me closer
