CHAPTER 1
Business Planning
In this book, you will learn how to complete a professional business plan. Visit my website www.mariasconsulting.co.nz to receive you templates and I will walk you through the process of completing it. It is a standard template that can be used for any small business.
First and most important is your audience! Who will read your business plan? Are you creating it for yourself? To help get your ideas focused and down on paper. To try to create your business or implement new ideas into an existing small business. Or are you creating it for someone else to read or an organisation to get funding such as a bank or an investor?
Depending on who your audience is, this will dictate how you will create your business plan. If it is for you, it can be more informal and the editing does not have to be perfect, your business plan can be a story written in your voice, you can make it fun by adding colour or pictures, adding a bit of personality.
If you are creating this plan with the sole purpose of receiving funding, then you must keep this in mind. With a professional plan, correct editing, visually looks professional with a good layout and it must answer all the funder’s questions plus more. That they are left with a feeling of confidence in your plan/business and in you the owner. If they finish reading it with more questions than answers or they can pick your plan to shreds you have not won them over and will be unlikely to receive their funding.
While creating this business plan, remember this is your unique business plan that you are creating for a business that you most likely have created from scratch, and you will operate. Especially, if this plan is for you only inject your personality into the plan. Add colour, photos, charts, boxes, graphs etc. Even though this is a template I like to see creative plans not just the writing and content. In this plan if you come across a subject/title that has
