1. Paula Finds Herself in the Hospital
Paula was sitting up on the corner of the hospital bed when Dave Sandman walked in. Hi Boss. You gave us a scare, he said. It was good that you had on your emergency bracelet and you pressed it before you blacked out.
What happened?
Dave asked?
I do not know for sure the only thing that I remember was I got out of the car and I started feeling dizzy. So, I pressed the button and sat down in the car and I woke up here.
It was a good thing that you had it on because it saved your life.
I know Paula,
replied.
As Dr. Hart entered the room, he asked How are you feeling?
I feel well,
Paula answered.
Is it ok for me to talk in front of your boss?
Yes,
Paula said.
I know that he knows everything that going on with you, but I still must ask and get your permission.
I know,
Paula said It is okay to talk.
Paula, you must have not taken your meds this morning because your blood count had dropped very low that is why you blacked out.
You are right I was in a rush because I wanted to get to the store and back before hospice got there to set up my rooms.
You are taking your sickness so well said,
Dr. Hart and Mr. Sandman. I know,
Paula replied I had a great life and I already live 20 years longer than what all of you expected. That is the reason why I do not have anything to be sad about. Plus, if the Lord is not ready for me, I will be here even longer.
I will not put it past you,
Dr. Hart replied, You just might. Remember this is the fourth time that hospice has been out to my house to set things up for me. I am going to get your discharge papers together so you can leave but remember do not be in a rush where you are forgetting to take your meds. I won’t Paula answered back.
As Mr. Sandman and Dr. Hart exited, Paula’s room she sat down in a chair near the door waiting on her discharge papers. Paula also started thinking of how badly this could have been if she didn’t push her emergency bracelet before she blacked out. She also realizes that this was a very close call and she has to be careful going forward. As she sat patiently waiting on her discharge papers Nurse Harris walks into transport Paula to her ride. Good afternoon!
said Nurse Harris.
Good afternoon,
said Paula.
Your ride is waiting for you so I will get you there in a zippy.
Okay said Paula but you know that I can walk.
"Now Paula! said Nurse Harris, you know better than that. You know that I have to take you out in the wheelchair which is the policy.
"Okay, you are right said Paula I will get in the chair.
Thank you
, Nurse Harris replied, Are you ready to go?
Yes.
, said Paula. Paula sat down in the wheelchair as Nurse Harris pushes her to her ride.
Being Home Alone is Not Always Good
Hospice and their team were finishing setting up Paula’s room at her residence when the emergency ambulance was bringing her home. After pulling up in the driveway they started to gather all Paula's belongings. As Paula entered the house with the paramedic’s assistance, she was greeted at the door by the hospice team. How are you feeling today they asked?
Paula replied, not too bad, but I have seen better days.
Hospices responded by saying, "That is the reason why we are here to make sure that everything is to your liking and that you are as comfortable as you can be. If there is anything that is not set up the way you want it, please let us know and we will correct it before we leave today.
Paula looked around and said that everything is set up great; I like the way that your team arranged everything because now things are easy for me to get to as well as move around.
Paula jokingly commented, "Everything looks great, but you know that you will be back in two weeks to pick everything back up.
Why did you say that?
Sue exclaimed. Oh! I know because this is our fourth time coming out here to set up your room.
Yes,
said Paula, but once again everything looks fine.
Do you have family members that you would like us to explain your treatment to why we are here?
No,
Paula replied. I would take care of that.
Okay, Paula if everything is to your liking we will be leaving, and remember if you need anything do not hesitate to call. I left all our contact numbers on your coffee table in case you need to contact one of us.
I will,
Paula replied and thanks.
Everyone was leaving and Paula started to walk to her favorite chair. Paula was sitting in her chair as she starts to come to her senses, she realized that she doesn’t have much time to live and that she needs to come clean with everything that she had done and ask for forgiveness from Pat, Patricia, and their mother Wendy. As her mind began to wander back thirty (30) plus years, she began to think of all her complements and how she made a big difference in many people’s lives. As Paula sits and thinks back, she had a big smile on her face as memories and good thoughts kept entering and exiting out of her mind. These happy thoughts kept entering her mind for fifteen (15) minutes before the nightmare began. The first nightmare was her sister’s bad accident that flashes through her mind along with the death of her sister's twins. Paula shook that off just for a few minutes. Then the robbery that she stages that led to the kidnapping of the two twins she had stolen entered her mind. Was kidnapping the two twins the right thing to do Paula kept asking herself all because my husband and I could not have children of our own. How about sending letters to their mother every year ensuring her that her twins were ok, ‘Was that good for her to know or hard on her?’ Should I do something about it
