FOREWORD

It is a privilege to be asked to write a Foreword to this book - Power Building Blocks, written by Samuel Olaniyan. This book which can also aptly be described as Hints For Greatness, is a powerful tool needed by anyone who wants to discover and fulfill God’s purpose for them.

We thank God for the life and ministry of the author - Pastor Sam Olaniyan. God helped him put all the thoughts and ideas together in this format to enable the rich gifts God gave him to benefit several readers in our generation and the generations to come. I have been thoroughly blessed as I went through the manuscript page by page. Several Quotes, Statements like Obstacles are obstructions to be tackled, No picture, no future reference, What has not crossed your mind can never cross your life, and What has not occurred to you can never become an occurrence in your life," etc. - are some of the phrases that attracted my attention, and even sent me thinking! 

The issues of commitment and focus and the several benefits attached to them are discussed and enumerated in this very important book.

I believe that anyone who desire to be better, and aim at greatness should make this book a tool that he or she consult regularly, and prayerfully use to help in life’s journey.

As we go through the book, I implore every reader to look into their lives and ask: Am I where I ought to be in life?, Has my level of commitment limited my rising? If this is so, then there is a need for change. The highest commitment we all can make is to be committed to God - and His Kingdom, His Plans for our lives, and always doing what is right in His eyes (Matt 6:4, 6: Acts 10:34-45).

PREFACE

It was the first week of November 1986 as a young adolescent. I was in form 2 (year 8), still trying to find my foot in secondary school, especially the ‘seniority’ stuff after surviving for one year. Honestly, I don’t know how I made it because in those days, if you didn’t have an elder brother in Form 5 or 4 who would always come to your rescue, oh, Lord have mercy on you!

I was living with my father’s eldest sister. Then the unexpected, what no child wished to experience, happened, the devastating news of my Dad passing into glory came and took away the joy and pride of my adolescence. My Dad was the youngest of his three siblings, my aunty being the eldest.

My Dream…

Very early in the morning, my aunty, a businesswoman, my uncle, and I were going to my father’s funeral in my uncle recently bought Peugeot 404 while driving past Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in northern Nigeria, trying to comfort and encourage me, my aunty pointed at the University, I can remember vividly it was around what is called North gate in ABU. She said this is where your boda agba (my first cousin) attended in the 70s, and she promised me, don’t worry, I will support you, and you too will go to school here. Despite the sorrow, disappointment, and fear of the uncertain future, those words and the picture of the University are fresh in me to date. I caught the dream of Ahmadu Bello University and a vision to pursue a professional career instead of business or trades that most people around were doing. I will occasionally sneak to the University and walk around, admiring the buildings, sculptures, and the countless numbers of students and visualizing when I will be a student at the university, wondering how the school system runs without any school bell. Against all odds, it was a dream come true years later when I graduated from the same university.

I have been practising these principles in this book, unknown to me, for over three decades. As Head of School, I have inculcated these fundamentals into primary school pupils and their lives are amazing today. I have shared these in remote villages, urban cities, and developed countries, yet the results have been phenomenal. I also experimented with these proven truths with my children and attached are their unedited personal work when they were 10 years old (check chapter 10 and 12).

INTRODUCTION

Power is not a chunk of muscles, it’s far beyond muscle mass, it is the ability to perform a task, to make things happen. The right to do or carry out a responsibility. Power is the capacity to drive, achieve and thrive in any endeavour.

But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power [koach] to get wealth,[chayil] that He may establish [quwm] His covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day. (Deuteronomy. 8:18 KJV).

The word translated as power is the Hebrew word "koach, while the word wealth comes from the Hebrew word chayil," which means virtue, valour, might, and strength. Power makes you a man or woman of virtue, valour, and ability, full of might and strength in your spirit, soul, and body.

The rate by which a task is carried out is known as power. It’s the rate energy (potential) is transmitted. You have potential and tremendous ability, but it requires transmission into success, greatness, and fulfilment of destiny. Power is the rate you transmit your in-built, God-given potential into influence and impact. There is no doubt about your potential, there’s no gift-less child of God, but the real issue is; will it (your gift) metamorphose into a dream come true? This book will power your potential and transform you into the man or woman God had in mind when He designed you.

Chapter 1

THE POWER OF DREAM

It is important to understand that many people who were influential in their time for doing something outstanding in the world, and many who were recorded in history for greatness, had dreams of what occurred before the event. It was firstly a dream before it turned into history. History cannot just be created without some preconceptions or forethoughts. Everything great that happens in our world today was once only a dream for someone.

Yet when I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten.

No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—His plan that was previously hidden, even though He made it for our ultimate glory before the world began.

But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord.

That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "No eye
