INTRODUCTION

I met a postgraduate student in my university days. He was studying for his second master's degree when I met him. His academic history and dedication to his studies were intriguing. He had 4 degrees – a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Law, Masters of Business Administration, and a Master of Science in-view.

His next plan was to get a Ph.D. When I asked him, Sir at what point will you stop acquiring degrees upon degrees? He answered, Until I’m happy and able to make enough money.

It took him about 13 or 14 years to acquire those degrees. He got a first-class in one of his bachelor's degrees, a second class upper in other degree, and distinction in his postgraduate courses but none of those qualifications could make him happy or fulfilled.

Recently, while I was in the city of Abuja, Nigeria, at a car showroom, where I had gone to buy a car, guess who I saw? Your guess is as good as mine. The man with plenty of degrees.

He is the CEO of an automobile company in the city of Abuja. He has over 100 luxurious cars in his car showroom.

I could not ask him exactly how he did it, how he ended up selling deluxe cars, because a lot was running through my mind. But I could see unspeakable joy and happiness in him.

He took me into his office and gave me a ‘wow’ treatment. As we got talking, he told me that he had abandoned all those degrees he had acquired and was now an international businessman who was into shipping and forwarding cars across Canada, the USA, and Germany.

In his words, If I had followed my passion all this while I would have made it before now, but I wanted to become the most educated man in my village.
