Kid's Zombie Adventures Series - Berry Wood
Chapter 1. Reflections
Heavy footsteps echoed in the forest as Kayden, Amanda, Michael, and Sammy ran through the wooded trails, going deeper and deeper into the dark woods. Camp Miccano faded father into the distance and the sun began to sink behind the trees and hills in the distance.
Kayden!
Slow up for a minute will you?!" huffed Sammy as they ran.
Kayden glanced over his shoulder then looked over to Michael who was running along beside him and they slowed their pace slightly, but still kept running,
Michael, do you think we are safe to stop for a bit?
he asked.
Not really. These zombies seem to be able to track us by more than just sight and sound. I think they are following our scent, like a dog would when it is hunting something. Just because we are out of sight, I don’t think we have lost them just yet.
So how do we shake them? We can’t just keep running forever
Amanda exclaimed.
We need to get somewhere safe where they cannot see us or hear us and where it will be harder for them to catch our scent.
Up in a tree maybe?
suggested Kayden.
Yes!
Michael said with a grin. A tree should be perfect! We just have to find one that is easy to climb.
I think I see one up ahead on the top of that hill up there
said Amanda, pointing up ahead of them.Let’s go!
Their heart's pounding in their chest they ran on, glancing behind their shoulders every now and then, expecting to see zombies walking out of the trees at any moment. Kayden pushed out the thoughts about what they were going to do in the long run to avoid the zombies- he knew he had to focus on keeping the group safe right now.
One day at a time
he said to himself as he ran on.
Come on we are almost there!
Michael
