Mad About Mad Max

Youhave to go and see those biker movies from Australia!’ a mate said over coffee.

It was 1981, and I was 18 and living on the outskirts of Bradford in England.

My friends and I were motorcycle mad, so when one of them mentioned a double feature screening of the movies Mad Max, and Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior, a group of us headed to the cinema.

By the end of the first movie, starring a young Mel Gibson and set in a postapocalyptic Australia, I was hooked. The Road Warrior made my head spin.
