Linda D. Powell

Hello! My name is Linda. I am fifty-six years old, married for the second time. I have eight children, five boys and three girls, seven grandchildren. When my children were very young, I read to them and now to my younger grandchildren. I’ve always enjoyed to draw and to write then I was pretty young myself! Then one day while sitting at my kitchen table I got the urge to write stories…so I did even though they weren’t very long! I have been writing off and on for twenty years. Since I enjoyed writing so much all of a sudden I get an idea why don’t I try to publish my stories for all to read… so now my goals are to publish my stories in hopes all will enjoy them and want to read them for their-selves, to their children and grandchildren as I have then and do now! In publishing this book I have hope our children will learn their A-B-C’s in a fun and enjoyable way also!

    Prince and Mr. Sims

Once upon a time, way down deep in the forest, there lived a little old man called Prince. He was very lonely, but he kept busy doing different things every day.

He took walks and went fishing a lot of the time.

One day, while out fishing by his favorite place, he met another lonely old man. His name was Mr. Sims, but my friends just call me ‘Sims’, he said.

Sims was standing by the stream near the Pine trees with his fishing pole. Prince said, Are you catching any fish? Naw, said Sims. Why don’t we take a walk together and explore along the way? That sounded good so off they went.

They were walking along and talking when they suddenly came upon a large cave! Prince decided to explore the outside before venturing into the cave—I didn’t live this long by accident, he said. After looking around and not seeing any big cat tracks, they went into the cave.

They walked into the darkness a ways and then, all of a sudden, they saw some glaring eyes coming toward them from the back of the cave!! Prince and Sims both were too scared to move!

What do you think it was?

It turned out to be a lost and scared little deer. Prince and Sims both said Why don’t you come with us? So the little deer did—now all three are traveling together, enjoying each other’s company.

After walking for a while, they found a mountain stream winding through the trees. (The little deer was thirsty, so they decided to sit down and dangle their feet in the cool water while the deer drank.) The little deer, being a deer—just had to jump in and splash the two little old men. They all had a grand time for a little while.

Later, they all decided to find the shade of those tall pine trees and take a little nap. The smell of pine trees, the cool breeze and good friends made the little deer feel safe and warm.

After everyone woke up from there nap, they all decided to take a swim before taking off again.

About two miles up the ridge, Prince turned to Sims and said, Can’t we turn around and go back now, I’m starting to get tired. Sims replied Why? At the end of our walk you will find a surprise!

So they walked some more. Another mile has passed. Prince and Sims are getting hungry now and of course the little deer isn’t hungry because he has been eating all day. The easiest way for the little old men to get food is to fish, which didn’t take long in the mountain stream. They quickly caught 3 nice trout which were promptly cooked over a camp fire. Then—Off
