Back To The Basics
H
ow did that fall feel? Yes, I am talking to you! It hurts and I am sure you have the scrapes and scares to prove it. Am I right? I am hoping that nod means I am. The important thing to remember is, you are going to be okay. Scrapes and scars remind us of the falls we experience, but this is not the end of the road for you. You must learn to use your wounds as stepping-stones to get better and stronger. For some of you, this will make sense. For some of you, it will take longer to get back up and shake it all off. Remember this: It does not matter how fast or slow you go. Forward is forward. Period.
Each day is a new opportunity to take time out for yourself. This can be easier said than done, I know. With everything we have on our plates, it can be hard to do, and sometimes you just need to stop. As my Aunt Amanda would say, just tap out.
This means put down what you have in your hands (except my book lol) and stop for a minute. I am sure the word STOP
just set off all kinds of alarms in your head. We live in such a fast-paced world. We play multiple roles. We wear multiple hats, and the word stop and even the word rest, does not seem like an option. I think many of you reading this would agree with me. Am I right? Take note of this important fact: You do have options. Yes, you? You are not alone, and there are many things you can do to get back to loving yourself.
Have you ever tried relaxing in a hot bubble bath? Taking a walk in the park? Maybe just sitting on your couch watching your favorite movie or soap opera, while the kids are at school? What about doing absolutely nothing? Have you ever tried that? How long has it been since you put yourself at the top of your priority list? If an answer does not quickly come to your mind, then it has been too long, and it is time to make some changes in your life. Once you take the time to do this, to understand your struggles, and the importance of balancing your professional life from your home life, your top priorities and tasks from the ones that can wait until a later time, you will learn to take your slice of warm humble pie. The positive benefits of self-care and self-love will allow you to re-focus.
Do you still need to be convinced that you can do this? Do you still need guidance on ways to help you get back to a better you, and back to the basics of loving you? If so, keep reading because there is so much more to learn. Hey, this part is easy believe it or not! Again, you must be willing to take time out, even if all you have is five minutes. There is no charge to get started, nor will you have to sign up to get an extra deal. The good news is you can do this all for FREE. Yes, I said FREE! As the old saying goes, Nothing is life is free
but loving yourself and practicing great self-care and self-love costs nothing at all. There are many basic things you can do to make it happen. Sometimes, it may be necessary to spend a few extra dollars on yourself, simply because you are worth it. Yes, you are so worth it! Hang in there and we will take this journey together! Take notes of the list on the following page, to get an idea of some things you can do to get back in tune and in balance with yourself. You can also get a sheet of paper and add to this list. Remember that self-love and self-care are just as vital as your beating heart, and the blood that it pumps through your veins. This is all about you. YES! YOU! You are wonderful, amazing, and powerful, and it is time to start treating yourself like the rare piece of art that you are. THE TIME IS NOW! So, in the name of all that is right and good, LET’S GET BACK TO BASICS!!!!
Keep a journal and record your thoughts and events happening in your life.
Take naps as much as you can.
Drink plenty of water.
Meditate.
Exercise or join a gym (try something simple and gradually progress at a pace that is comfortable for you).
Disconnect from social media (for a few hours or during certain times of the day or week).
Eat healthier foods (try this gradually so you do not set yourself up to fail. Gradually try new healthier options).
Listen to music.
Read.
Phone a friend (to ask for help, their opinion or expertise about something, to catch-up).
Take a short walk (through
