Some guy in a pickup truck blasted his horn at me when I narrowly missed clipping his bumper as I sped up the highway. Shit. I really did feel bad about it, but I didn’t have time to screw around. There was an accident that had delayed me a good half hour and I was supposed to go up and meet the big time vice president immediately, or so the secretary had said.

Greg Bryant. He was the VP that every secretary talked about in hushed voices during our luncheons and appreciation days. He was the one who went through a bunch of admins and in the short time I worked for the company, he actually went through two. And that was in only three months!

But he’s the head of the college program at work and he had been meeting with the different people that were chosen to take part. My boss put in my application for me and they actually picked me. My parents were really proud of me and I didn’t want to embarrass them or my boss, Jason, by getting kicked out because I insulted this man.

Come on, come on, I moaned as traffic started piling up again. What the hell? Why were that many cars out on the road in the middle of the day, anyway?

I glanced at the clock in my dash and answered my own question - it was noon. Everybody on the planet was going out to lunch. My stomach clenched. Great. I bet I was making Mr. Bryant wait for me.

Fifteen minutes later, I finally arrived at the corporate office in downtown Dallas. I parked in employee parking. At least everybody being gone for lunch meant that I could find a spot pretty close to the lobby.

I rushed into the lobby to check in with the receptionist.
