    Out Of Darkness

Thank you for your purchase. My name is Meshon Bowens I grew up in Gary Indiana. I had a two-parent household.  Both of my parents worked, however, my mother was verbally, mentally and physically abusive.  I was sexually assaulted from between the ages of 12-15, I ended up pregnant and forced to have an abortion. During the time I got pregnant, I was sexually active with another male and I hoped, prayed and was even convinced it was his child, however, I would never find out.  I hid this pregnancy for 7 months before anyone found out. My mother made me go through a horrific experience to get rid of my baby. She went through great lengths to find somewhere that would end the pregnancy; most places wouldn’t do it because I was too far long. My mother found a place in Wichita Kansas that would take me, of all the places this one was operating without a license, the doctor had multiple malpractice suites and there were hundreds of people picketing the clinic.  Not to mention, the inhumane, disgusting way this clinic operated. This was a three day process using suppositories to force labor.  If the baby lived they would beat it and throw the baby in the trash, we had to watch a video and knowing this my mother still decided this was a good idea.i cant tell you how that moment affected me for years. That experience caused my heart to harden and not care or trust anyone not even myself. I have been assaulted 3 times after that, I joined a gang, was shot, spent some time in jail, settled for abusive relationships, struggled with alcohol abuse for years. And somewhere in there I found the strength to stand up and pull myself together.  I raised two beautiful children, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree and im here. I have two beautiful grandchildren and most of all I found peace. Im not perfect but I do know that nothing beats a failure but a try. I was homeless for a period of time, and it brought me closer to a community of the rejected, the unloved and the unhealed.  I wrote this book to give voices to the unheard and the forgotten. There are hundreds of thousands of children in foster care and once they age out they are abandoned the money is gone and they are left without resources my mission is to bridge the gap I plan to take a percentage of my proceeds from this book and many more to come, my stores and any stream of income I have coming in. I want to create safe housing, education and whatever I can do to build these young adults up. We definitely have to be that change we want to see. I know I didn’t make it this far for nothing and neither did you.

    But change gives the direction."

    Chapter 1

It was a winter day on January 25, 1978 in Indianapolis Indiana. Indianapolis had been paralyzed by snow in the biggest storm in history. This would be the time I was ready to be born. My mother Jessica woke up at 4:30am right when the storm warning had been issued. David! Wake up. My water just broke. Oh no! Not now Jessica how will we make it to the hospital. The roads are all shut down, there is no traffic moving anywhere. How will we make it to the Hospital? All I know David is this baby is coming and we have to do something! Hurry the contractions are getting closer and closer! OK baby just wait here I will get someone at the hospital on the phone. Just hold on baby! Oh my god looks like I will have to deliver this baby. OOOOHHH! Hurry!  The contractions are getting closer. Just relax I will be right back."

Hello Methodist, look I have an emergency, my wife is about to give birth and we are stranded at home because of the storm, can you help me? Yes I am a midwife. First you just need to relax and go get some towels." OK I got the towels, now what?  Now you need to go in the room by your wife and position her legs in an upright parted position.

The nurse stayed on the phone and directed my father every step of the way. What every you do, just stay calm sir. I have dispatched the nearest ambulance.  Oh my god nurse! I feel something! Tell her to keep breathing and push and you pull gently as she pushes. The next thing you know, Jessica and David Williams gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

It’s a girl! It’s a girl, baby. She is beautiful. Let me hold her, said Jessica. Aww honey look, her eyes sparkle just like two beautiful diamonds. That is a the perfect name for her, Diamond.

You would have thought I was the first born, if you were there to see how excited my parents were.  An emergency vehicle pulled up minutes after I was born. We were rushed to the hospital for treatment. After being examined, I woke up to my 4 older siblings gathering around me. I was greeted by such love by my oldest brother David Jr. who was 13, the second oldest Tammy 11, and Bobby who was 9.  My siblings were so excited about the new addition to the family, especially Bobby, who was no longer the youngest.

Tammy was Ms. Perfect. In my father’s eyes, she could never do any wrong.  Bobby on the other hand, had an overwhelming thirst for attention. He spent most of the day annoying the other siblings. By the end of the day, he
