In the World But Not of the World - Lynn Osborne
Mother’s Journey
God had me covered in my mother’s womb from the start. In the world, but not of the world.
God was watching over me; it wasn’t realized until I was thirty-five years of age. It all started in 1960 when I was born. My wonderful, God-fearing mother was raised as a preacher’s kid and only child—her father a pastor, her mother a first lady. Mom was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1933, where she spent the majority of her life in church day in and day out. She decided to break away from the church scene for a while. Before long, they brought life to five beautiful kids: Tyrone, Kevin, Yvette, Laquetta, and Kim. After twenty-five years of marriage, it would dissolve into separation. My mother eventually met her soulmate and gave birth to a handsome boy named Sean Osborne, which our father allowed to have his last name.
Days, weeks, months, and years went by; we would often hear Mom speak of being tired just about every single day. We didn’t understand what was going on with her health. I would tell her to go rest every time she spoke of being tired. All I remember was spots appearing on her face. I heard her speak to God, saying, I’m not going to accept this hellish disease.
Soon after the spots were gone, she was healed, so I believed. However, I would still often overhear Mom mumble about being tired without explaining the reason why to anyone. Until one day, Mom was having a conversation with a friend about lupus and expressing the way it would attack her. Lupus is a disease that attacks any organ in the body, causing a wide range of symptoms such
