    Introduction

    I was born the youngest of six children— four boys and two girls. I grew up in a one bedroom duplex apartment with my parents and siblings. My sister and I slept in the kitchen each night on a rollaway cot, and my brothers slept in the living room on a sleeper sofa. Meanwhile, our parents slept in the bedroom. 

    Growing up, we had a strict routine and set of rules that we had to follow. My father believed in keeping us in church seven days a week. Yes, we had church services from Monday through Sunday! My father required us to attend church without any excuses. 

    Church was my life, week after week. On Sundays, we were in church all day long! We had Sunday school, morning service, and evening service. Sundays were especially hard for us because we had to get up early that next morning for school. Sometimes, we didn’t get home until after 11:00 PM. As a result, we arrived at school late many Monday mornings due
