How to Stop Procrastinating - Sebastian Croft

    Introduction

Life has a habit of getting away with us all. If you’ve picked up this book, it’s probably because you’ve found yourself facing a list of tasks and activities you can barely find the end of and you don’t know how to even begin, let alone end.

It’s all too easy to find yourself overwhelmed, whether it’s because your task list is jam packed with things you don’t want to do or because there simply don’t ever seem to be enough hours in the day.

All of us are prone to procrastination, especially when we don’t know how we’re ever going to get everything done – and most especially when we’d rather be doing something else instead.

Whether you’ve found yourself in a situation where you’ve got so much to do that you’re lost and feeling overwhelmed, or you’re frustrated because you can never seem to get enough done in the space of a day, this book contains the answers.

Within this book, you will find plenty of quick and easy tips to improve your focus, increase your attention and banish procrastination forever. Most of them can be either completed or implemented in a matter of seconds or minutes, but all of them – especially when combined – can contribute to a more productive way of working and living.

When your focus is high, you’re laser focused on the tasks at hand and you’re ready and willing to complete your task lists right out of the gate, it’s amazing how much you can make your time stretch. Once you’ve adjusted and adapted to the tips in this book, you’ll find yourself completing twice as much as you once did in the space of a day, if not more.

All of that for a few minutes of work and a willingness to change your mindset. Can you think of any other bargain so worthwhile?

Stop hiding your head in the sand because your task list is so overwhelming. Don’t despair any longer because you just can’t keep up with your workload. Don’t let go of your dreams and goals because there’s just no time to work towards them.

With the tips in this book, you will never have to feel this way again. Your future is yours for the taking.

    Creating Your Focus Space

To make the most out of the tips in this book, you’re going to need to do some preparation. Unlike the rest of the changes you’ll be making, this one can’t quite be achieved in seconds – but once you’re done, you will notice the difference immediately and your new focus space will boost your creativity and concentration tenfold, supporting your efforts elsewhere.

It goes without saying that some places encourage focus much more strongly than others. A room full of chattering people with lots of movement, phone screens and noise from the television, for example, has infinitely more distractions than a prepared quiet space that you have designed for your own needs.

Choose a part of your house where you can be away from other people and pets and where your favorite entertainments are not on display. This is where you will build your focus space by looking at the following environmental factors:

    Lighting

It’s easier to focus and you will have an easier time concentrating in an area that is well lit. Though many of us ordinarily prefer a dimmer, cozier light while we are reading or watching a television show, it’s not actually conducive to concentration because it makes us feel relaxed and sleepy, not alert and ready to produce our very best work.

If possible, take advantage of natural light – it’s known to improve your performance and productivity. If this is not an option, or if you are working in the evening once the natural light has gone, aim for soft but bright light that emulates natural light as closely as possible.

    Comfort

Your comfort levels while you are working are extremely important because discomfort is another potential distraction. If your back aches after sitting in your chair for an hour or you can’t find the right position for your feet, you’re going to be thinking about that problem instead of the task in front of you.

    It’s a good
