In short, all these tips will allow the whole family to start enjoying all the great benefits of hygge today.
Chapter 1 – The Hygge Mindset
Much of hygge is about creating an environment, both physical and otherwise, in which everyone can feel positive about themselves and life in general. All the tips in this book are designed to help engineer this environment easily and in a fun way for children. This chapter explains some of the ways in which we can make a hygge mindset for children and the entire family, creating a household where the principles of hygge can become established and flourish easily.
Tip #1 – Give your time
Time is the most precious gift of all we have to give. Reserving a slot in the day or an entire day of the week for the family, lets children gain a sense of how valued they are. When they recognise that everything else stops at 6pm on a weekday evening or a Saturday afternoon or an evening meal on Tuesdays, they will also value this time and look forward to it. It is both reassuring and comforting that time is reserved for them and that the hours the family spends together take primary importance.
Sit down as a family and ensure that you can find two or three times a week when you can guarantee you will all be free and can meet. Compare diaries and reserve these slices of time for each other. Perhaps you will all cook a meal together or play a game or go for a walk or bike ride together. The activities will change over time and in different seasons, but it is the explicit reservation of your time that will make the difference.
You can make it more exciting by planning ahead and talking together about what the next activity will be. Let everyone chip in and volunteer their own favorite pastime. Agree what you will all be doing the following week, giving everyone a chance to look forward and
