Introduction
My Longevity Formula: a book about health, happiness and longevity. This book is based on a holistic approach for men over 50 and will guide you through a new perspective on your upcoming years.
This is about ageing versus getting old.
This is about energy, joy, and the lightness of
being you.
This is about reclaiming your power and forging the best moments of your life with your partner, immediate family and friends.
These are my experiences and strategies of living more than 55 years pill free and pain free. Are you ready to live healthily, happily and longer? Turning 50 years old was a crucial moment in my life, and I believe it is for many men. It is often a time where you doubt your previous choices and are unsure of what the future holds.
At 50, I realized that it was time to:
Reboot my operating system and clean out old habits that were not supporting my idea of ageing.
Reload once I cleaned out my operating system, I began to acquire knowledge through reading, lectures and coaching to become the new me at 50 & counting.
Rejoice in the decisions I made to have the best life ahead of me and shrink my disease span.
And so, my Longevity Formula was born. As a result of rebooting, reloading and rejoicing, I began to implement new strategies in nutrition, exercise, mental work and spiritual awareness with the desire to enjoy a great healthy life with low environmental impact and inspiring my family and friends.
Statistically, a good portion of my generation, the baby boomers, will reach the age of 100 so, let’s clean out old habits that hinder us, acquire healthy behaviors and enjoy life to its fullest.

Chapter 1: One Life, One Shot

You can’t enjoy abundance of wealth if you’re not in good health.
-Anonymous
Remember when you were in your mid-20s and you thought, 50? That’s so far away! I have tons of time! I don't have to worry about that yet.
Then BOOM, you wake up one day and you’re in your 50s. You feel the weight of time. Now, every passing second is taking you closer to the end of this incredible experience of life.
Turning 50 was a BOOM moment for me. I was living in Guatemala, coming out of a relationship, my daughters were leaving the family nest and where I lived and worked as a real estate agent was no longer an attractive destination for investors. Time started to take on a new meaning. I remember standing in front of the mirror naked, without any facade, without any mask, just me, and I realized I was not 25 anymore and I wasn’t as performant as I used to be. It was there, at age 50, in front of the mirror naked that I realized each of us only has one life and one shot.
I began to analyze my life. I began to question and ponder about what the second half of my life, those next 50 years, would look like. I began to stand in front of the mirror naked daily and observe myself. I wanted to like and be proud of what I saw staring back at me. I began to dream of reaching 100 in good health with no pills and no pain, filled with joy, surrounded by my children and my grandchildren, being close to nature and being at peace with a purpose.
I decided to take action and work actively to reshape my life. I chose to reboot my systems, change my lifestyle and regain control over my life at the age of 50. I chose to be more conscious and more responsible for my one life and decided to give it my best shot for the next 50 years and counting. I became even more curious and started to hope. I began to dream and dream big.
Day by day, I had little wins. I started losing some pounds here and there, ran a little bit faster, swam a little bit longer. I started to feel more energized, I was sleeping better and I enjoyed every minute of my life. My mindset became more positive, I had less stress and my mind was clearer and sharper. I felt free, free to dream and pursue my purpose. Within two years, I had lost over 10 pounds, lost a whole pant size, and I was able to lose those frustrating extra pounds hanging around my waist. The work paid off.
Now when I look in the mirror, I feel fantastic and confident. Instead of thinking I’m on the downward slope of life.
I’m thinking: 50 down, what about 100? I have 50 more years and I want to make them count!
So, I want to ask you: What are you going to do with your one life and how will you execute your one shot?

YOU CAN’T BEAT THE STATS:
Many of you may be thinking: Ok, Armand, I have one life and one shot but is it even possible to reach the age of 100 healthily and happily? The short answer: Yes.
An effect of industrialization and societal development has been an increase in life expectancy. In less than sixty years, the average life expectancy has skyrocketed globally. We have added almost 15 years of life since 1960. It has been statistically proven that 25% of our generation will live past the age of 80[1] with the average life expectancy being 79 years[2]. This spectacular jump is due to multiple factors like better food/nutrition, improved living conditions, better hygiene, medical advancements, less labor intensive jobs due to developments in machinery and a better understanding of how to take care of your health.
When I turned 50, I looked at what the statistics were saying and saw that it was more feasible than ever to live to be 100 and in optimal health. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the centenarian population in the United States is expected to grow to more than 600,000 by 2060[3]. In 2020, there were 90,000 centenarians in the United States[4]. Approximately 29% of centenarians said they expected to live to 100, but only 21% of the baby boomer generation said they expect to reach that same milestone. However, a good number of them may make that goal[5] and I want to be included in that statistic. Now, don’t get crushed by the stats, let’s look at these numbers in action.
If you look at centenarian populations around the world, there are 5 famous blue zones where people have lived the longest and the healthiest (Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece, and Loma Linda, California)[6]. I can summarize their longevity by the following points:
• Exercising
• Earthy meals
• Quality sleep
• Social interaction
• Mental
