Chapter SeparatorVincent was sitting in his office, sipping his black coffee and trying to get through the hangover that he had from the previous evening. Things had been rough on the work front, and the long days in the office were making for even longer nights. It was finally starting to catch up to him, and he was having more of a struggle shaking off the headaches that he was getting through the week as a result of his benders.
Things had been rough for the editorial board. The interest from his readership had shifted under him, and he wasn’t sure if he would be able to ride the wave until their interests shifted back to what he could report on. Magazines had always been a tough sell once the internet started taking over years ago, and now with the portals and the people going to and fro all the time, it was really tricky trying to hold people’s attention. No matter what he did to the pictures, the articles, or the ads, he kept on seeing his number for subscriptions dwindling. The higher-ups were starting to breathe down his neck as well, and he knew that it wouldn’t be too long before he would get the ax. Someone had to pony up for the losses, and Vincent had worked in the industry long enough to know that it would be his ass above the bandsaw if need be.
How did it come to this? he thought, with his head still throbbing. I’ve busted my ass for years and now this is how it’ll end. All because all anyone wants to hear or read about are those dumb Free Use Portals.
It wasn’t like they weren’t trying their best to report on it. Society Magazine had done plenty of editorials on the people who came from the other dimension. The problem was that every magazine was doing it. There wasn’t any reason to get a magazine or a digital
