A habit is an action that is performed with little thought or conscious compulsion. If a person needs to overcome a major hurdle to complete the action, it’s unlikely to become an ingrained habit. However, if the user begins to complete the action without thinking, it has become an effective habit. While many of our habits are natural—for example, scratching an itch or drinking water when thirsty—many are learned and ingrained over time to occur without conscious triggers. In the morning, we brush our teeth without great internal debate. At night, we may habitually read or perform another ritual to encourage sleep. A savvy developer or designer will build and create applications and products that expand on our natural habits
