My First Haircut

My First Haircut is dedicated to all of the “Firsts” (You know who you are) who received their first haircut during my Husband’s 50 years of running his Barbershop in a “Main street USA” type of city in the Midwest. Celebrating 50 years in the said location, with very little change is easy as Barber customers remain very loyal. As a matter of fact, many of his current customers were some of his “Firsts”. Once you have a Barber, it is hard to make a change. Besides, where else can you go to hear the local news and the gossip is free!
Stop by and say Hi! sometime if you are in the Neighborhood, in Illinois, on Route 24. (You can Google the address). If you need a haircut, he can always try to squeeze you in. You can get a good haircut in an old-fashioned Barber shop, with old fashioned prices.
I am sorry to report, there is no longer a candy store next door; but if you stop by the Barber might have his popcorn popper running and you can have a bag just for stopping in.

Mary Cahoe

Mary Cahoe is married to a Barber who has been in business for 50 years in the same location. Celebrating this accomplishment, she wrote this story for him, dedicating it to all of his “firsts”. It is for all children who will or have experienced their first haircut. Mary is a retired RN with a Masters Degree in Nursing Science after 31 years of practice. During her career she has worked in Medical surgical and Intensive Care Nursing. She has also been a Nursing Instructor and Director of Hospice. She is an avid reader and writer of journals and stories for many years. This is her first publication. She and the Barber, Gary have been happily married for 49 years. They have raised three children and have 7 Grandchildren of which they are so very proud.
