My poetry is my heart’s ability to speak when spoken words fail me. This book is dedicated to those around me who have helped me find myself, overcome struggles that seemed impossible to face, celebrate joys surrounded by the greatest love, and honoured me by being a part of my story to date. People have come into my life for short periods of time, and some have stayed a lifetime. But there are some who have left a mark forever on my soul, and they are the reason this has come to pass.

1.jpgA Void Unknown
Lost in the motion of a mind stuck at 200 miles per hour,
Thoughts become so entangled in a maze of emotions, process of focus quickly losing power.
A void greater than a glacial valley making its presence known,
The want of knowing why it’s there chilling down to the bone.
Nothing makes sense anymore: everything is a short-lived joy.
Many, the troubles dance in your eyes, threatening to push you to cry,
All the time waiting for the stars to align and the downpour to stop,
That the last outburst of rage will be just so, and the last tear fallen will be the final drop.
Every day a different mask is donned to best fit the current company,
Never allowing the truest version of yourself to be entirely free;
Forever searching for the something that will help to heal the wound invisible to even you,
Continuously trying to manoeuvre through the pity of false understanding of plenty and of few.
Trying to find the refuge in the thunder and lightning crackling from stormy skies,
To envisage the warmth of happiness that your heart is screaming out for your mind to visualise;
Hoping to find the strength to follow in the footsteps of the sun shining powerfully alone,
Rise and rise again, no matter how dark the night has been, portraying the strength you’ve always shown.
Smiles can mask the sadness in the eyes of a sad and weary soul;
Laughter can cover up the pain of hurt fresh that chipped away the ol’.
Kisses and embraces can push loneliness back into the shadows for a time;
Talking can create an illusion of completeness, more with every line.
Those looking in on your life can see only that the grass is evergreen.
They can’t see beyond the boundaries to an everlasting silent scream
Of having a life that people declare that you should by far be content with—
Only you know the perfection lying behind these walls is all but an illusive myth.
Tens of hundreds of people could surround you in a moment, yet all you can feel is loneliness.
You could lie with someone in the most intimate of moments and feel that contentment is slipping into the abyss.
Times of heartache and pain or danger coupled with uncertainty could be the times left forcing you to feel alive,
Extremes provoking the fight in you to awaken the power and drive.
