Mosaic
The process of fixing a shattered self-esteem into something beautiful & unbreakable
By Renae Arias
Introduction
Abuse is a serious matter that unfortunately all too many people endure. In my 43 years I have come face to face with abuse far too many times, my goal in writing this book is to not only raise awareness but also to help those who may be suffering through something like this to not only be able to recognize that it is abuse, but also to change their thoughts, their patterns and ultimately change their lives. It is tough to rebuild yourself after abuse, especially mental and emotional abuse. I believe many children suffer through it without help and turn into damaged adults who not only have trouble coping in everyday life but also have difficulties knowing how to treat others. Most of those who have endured abuse sadly end up abusing others or develop serious cases of depression and anxiety.
I came up with the title Mosaic because I feel like I have been broken or even shattered. I love the idea that a mosaic can be a beautiful work of art made from broken pieces. Something else that really stood out to me while deciding on this as a title was that a mosaic can be set in concrete, making it unbreakable. I hope that my story help’s someone to gain courage, strength and see their own value. I want all of us who have suffered and endured to rise above it and become a light that can guide someone else to a healthy self-image and self-esteem. We all are capable of overcoming injustice and hate but nothing changes without change. I aspire to be that change and to open the world’s eyes to the reality that is in front of us daily. My dream and goal is to change the pattern of thinking that has been embedded into our psyches that says it is okay for an equally imperfect yet arrogant & condescending person to rule over another human being.
In this life there are many wolves at the door, and they are ready to invade, attack and even devour the innocent. So, let’s empower and lift each other up. Let’s build strong children and stop the cycles that ruin our children, women and even honest men. Let’s change our habits and our thoughts to positive ones and start believing in ourselves and others. We have to be fearless game changers; we need to be motivators with purpose and be the listeners that others need. We need to live our lives with compassion. Understanding brings people together and that is what I am trying to accomplish here by telling my story. I hope you will understand damaged ones and not judge them, lift them up and not cause them to lose hope. A damaged mind is very difficult to change but it is possible and especially when those with the power to create change do so.
We all have a voice; we should use it. My story is not a pretty one, it hurts to tell it and I make it a point not to dwell on the negative, especially in this book, but rather to impress upon the positive changes I’ve made through the experiences I ‘ve endured. I do get personal in my story so there are some cringe worthy pieces but above all it helps the healing process and I know there will be many who can relate to my story. We should never be ashamed of what others project onto us or of anything beyond our control. It is not your fault; it does not define who you are; you get to decide that. That is my message in this book, I hope you find it helpful and I hope you will grow in your journey from reading my book. Thank you.
