I hope before you act on your suicidal thoughts you will take the time to read through this book because I think it may help you find a way through your pain other than taking your life. You always have the option to end your life, so taking the time to read this book will not take that away. Will you consider that there may be another way to ease your pain?
If you are a person who truly cares about someone suffering with suicidal thoughts then please read about how you can encourage that person in a positive way while they heal from the pain that is causing them to think about ending their life. This book will help you be the supportive person I know you want to be.
Finally, this book is not meant to interfere with proper medical care. If you think you may be suffering from a mental illness which is causing you to contemplate suicide then please see a doctor, a therapist, or call 911, or the emergency number for your area.
This book is to be used as an aid for getting through one of life’s most difficult times. If you are suicidal, no one can make you live. Only you can make the choice to live. I hope this book will help you to help yourself move out of the place of pain that is driving your suicidal impulses and help you better understand that suicide is never the only option. You can get past your pain and live.
Chapter 1: Pain
Painful emotions are something to talk about not something you have to die over.
There is one certainty when you are contemplating taking your life and that is that you are in pain. Every suicidal person is a person in pain. The bottom-line truth about suicide is that it is always an attempt to stop pain.
Before we go any further, I want you to know:
I CARE THAT YOU ARE IN PAIN.
I TRULY CARE THAT YOU ARE SUFFERING.
I believe there are other people around you that if they knew the pain you are having, they would also care about your pain. I hope that as you read this you will come to believe that there is someone in this world who cares about your pain. There is someone who will listen to you and care about you and you don’t have to die to be heard.
You always have the ability to take your life, but because you picked up this book, I believe there is also a part of you that wants to end the pain in a way that does not mean choosing to end your life. I would really like to walk with you through the pain that is causing you to have thoughts of suicide. And, if you will hang in there with me, I believe you can find a way to deal with your pain and live through this difficult time in your life. I believe you can find a way forward by relieving your pain and living to see a better day.
All suicidal thoughts come from overwhelming feelings of pain. Think about that for a minute. Is it true that
