Cleavage: The Complete Anthology
()
About this ebook
Cleavage, an anthology by poet Diamond Sanders, demonstrates a masterful use of word-play and historical poetic elements to detail the introspective life experience of an African American man. All of the lyrical and descriptive pieces in this collection come together like a wedding, where we as the readers get a glimpse into the emotionally-ripe interpretation of nature and a soul-stirring account of star-crossed lovers, delightful, taboo. Reminiscent of the love and suffering inherent in the work of Oscar Wilde, Cleavage is a timeless work of art that linguistically guides you through the travail of life. It makes a great gift to a lover and a great read if you appreciate the emotional highs and lows that come with being in love and navigating a difficult journey.

Dedications
My Angels and Ancestors
You provide fortitude for my spirit.
You offer acquaintance even when I’m alone.
As I edge closer to this leap of faith,
You reveal your wings.
A reminder that I too, can fly.
Momma
Like sunshine to a green leaf,
your love is warm and unconditional.
Dad (Mr. Willie)
Your wisdom is profound,
I suspect that you have attained the meaning of life.
And that is to take the bitter with the sweet
10-4-4-4-6
Sweet Cheeks
You are my partner through this journey.
We have created life together,
and there is no better gift that I could ever be given.
Thank you for being my air,
I look forward to the storms we brew in the future.
Family,
I am a potato.
My sister is the salt.
My brother is the pepper.
My aunts are the mustard.
My uncles are the mayonnaise.
My nieces are the paprika.
My nephews are the relish.
My cousins are the secret ingredients.
Together, we are grandma’s tastiest potato salad.
Tres Hermanos
I think it’s funny how god provided this salty ocean
with three bodies of fresh water.
Tres Hermanas
When your mom was your age,
she would paint entire walls with words.
So it is through her spirit
that I have wrote this book
for you.
To find love is to forage a forgotten forest.
A fantastic flower awaits,
as do fiends, fliers and fate.
Rose
I have stumbled upon a dying rose.
Her greatest splendors were spent in the midst of lesser flowers,
but there is beauty in her remains.
Her petals, now aged and burgundy make for sweet potpourri,
still I wonder,
—what were you like before the bouquet?—
Cardinal
You ascended before thirty.
And I’m not the type to cry, but
this one really hurt me—
guess you really craved the sky.
Still I wonder, why the hurry?
I could’ve learned to fly,
I could’ve joined you on your journey.
Then we’d both
