Margot White

A collection of poems by musician and poet, Margot White. At times the rules seem fixed for the identity of an artist-not so for White. An established poet in her own right, she is the winner of the Balcones' Poetry Prize in addition to having her poems published in numerous publications. On the other hand, she has been gaining a substantial audience through her music, often blurring the lines between where the poet ends and the musician begins. Now for the first time, both her music and poetry will take the stage, with the release of her four-song EP, I Saw It on the Radio, complemented by this wondrous collection of poetry titled, The Fortune of a Fairy.

The Fortune of a Fairy - Margot White

    alice

Alice asks me what that dagger is doing in my womb with a blade reflecting moonlight,

    scarlet starts to bloom

I query at the mirror, absorbed by what I see somewhere in its realm I hear another part of me.

    The chandelier is shining,

    the room perambulates

magnetized by voices resounding from the well.

The frames are gold around me, the faces saccharine, The women in the paintings on the walls stare

at something I don’t yet see.

Things that cease to be are just the phoenix of the ash.

    Birds from other worlds

    that someday we will see.

Galloping pathways furrowed in my mind, golden key in hand, curiosity my bird.

    I bid farewell familiar

    worlds, favor
