Words
The first words I ever wrote that had meaning and were better than lists were haikus in 3rd grade (Mrs. Wilson), but I soon learned about poetry that rhymed, then the rhythm of poetry and the styles that abound. Shakespeare sonnets and iambic pentameter filled my world. The shades between the words and breaking the grammatical rules to enhance meaning, all filled me up forever.
Some of the poetry is almost from the beginning of my poetic journey. I believe Echoes
is the oldest, from somewhere in Middles School. I believe it came from my 8th grade experiments. The newest is something I wrote especially for this little book, Sandy Hook.
Everything else is in between those days.
I must thank my mom who always asked me to write a happy poem, and rarely understood my meanderings. I did write a few happy poems for her, but they are not in this particular book. Perhaps I’ll have to write one just for her? I also would like to thank the husband and the
