FEARLESS TIGER

I took a deep breath again as we approached the jungle.

My thoughts raced as I thought of nothing but the danger ahead.

I was scared so much I wished I could walk out of my skin but this fear I could handle.

Though I was unsure of what was in front of me, because even as I was breathing- I felt like the living dead.

I looked around and saw the frightened faces of the men who were with me.

That’s when I realized, I shouldn’t have agreed to go onto this extravaganza.

My body wanted to leave but my mind kept it at bay,

As I looked on the road and the jungle seemed closer.

We got off and headed in its direction.

As we were instructed to split up, I pondered and froze in shock,

For we were about to encounter a monster where protection wasn’t an option.

And so after a long hard thought, I proceeded; as I tried to move without having a stroke.

I felt the winds change and I could sense its smell.

I crept up to the creature, moving on silently.

My body frail, weak and shaking; I felt like I was under a spell.

I could not discard the thought of me being hunted down and killed violently.

As I came closer, I could hear the creature.

My mind became blank and I could not comprehend.

And this in spite of all I had heard about its merciless nature,

Therefore I approached with the idea that this might be my end.

I looked forward only to realize, it was looking straight at me.

It growled, showing its massive point teeth and its ferocious eyes.

I stood there in both fear and awe

That is when I started hearing all the other men’s lies.

They had said it was fierce and unforgiving.

That it had instinct only to hunt and kill

That it was as heartless as the devil and it is that which I was now believing.

Therefore as I stared back at it, there was no time to feel.

It moved closer and stared me right in the eye.

Although it was said to be devious, it was also magnificent.

Through all the teeth and the fierce face, I could not even deny;

That my body and spirit was shaking in fear and that was evident.

So as my heart throbbed and my mind was blank,

I saw its innocence yet I felt its grace and although my life was on a death trigger;

A death trigger waiting only to be pulled by this humongous beast. And even so, it is the creature I thank.

For as I looked on, I saw with all its royalty, mercifully grant me my life back. That is when it disappeared into the darkness... the majestic fearless tiger.

Icy FIRE

Hot as icy fire, cold as frozen larva. Gifted like a model for hire, the parts of my mind are left uncovered for her to discover. She is like a rose.

Covered with thorns yet beautiful. Even scented with perfect perfume up-close. Seductive yet untouchable.

I sometimes wish i were so lucky enough to be near her. To at least feel her presence; to hear her. But as fiery as she is, you could never get close enough.

For I have seen many try but fail as they attempted to stir her.

As burning hot as she is, she melts iron.

In fact she is so sarcastic, that’s the irony. And because most are shocked because of her character, they can’t withstand the heat.

She has the tenacity to tame a wild stallion.

Some of us don’t know her name, most of us never will. But she is the hope that derails disgrace, envy and disappointment.

Yet people choose to ignore her still.

Beings will never understand her fully but an eternity she will spend with them. Even though they don’t seek atonement.

Flexible, rigid, sustainable, she has qualities that far surpass comprehension.

Attainable and enjoyed when steadied; she gives life to everyone even those in detention. She can be rough, tough, cold; a heaven or hell she can unfold.

She is like a mighty sword unsheathed. It can either defend or attack; either be cowardly or

The author's writing style was engaging and kept me invested to continue. Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a poetry anthology and a well-written read.
