About this ebook

This anthology represents what remains of the core of my verse output to date. Over the years much has been lost or destroyed. This, for what it is worth, is the best of what remains. This anthology represented something less of a solid core than a collection of tragically disparate yet, at times perhaps, inspired fragments of what once remained of my verse output.

Organic carbon-based life form some decades old, born in the coal black valleys of the Rhondda, South Wales, formerly of South East London, currently somewhere in Bohemia. Prefers shade to direct sunlight. Tends not to multiply but readily absorbs beer and other alcohols. Appears non-toxic, probably harmless.

Poetry in Flesh Songs of Melancholia and Dark Obsessions - Steven Dark

    Preface

This anthology represents what remains of the core of my verse output

to date. Over the years much has been lost or destroyed. This, for what it

    is worth, is what remains.

    Dedication

To 'M' who, in the very brief and beautiful time we shared, both inspired

and gave me confidence and courage.

    remember not

Sharp and sudden, the cruel slash of searing pain begins to fade yet forms the deepest scar.

Smouldering gut wrenching embers burn mouth dry

    and storms torrential ashen eyes

for a love that lasts and lingers long. And when there is time to remember

what used to and may yet still be

think only of the beauty that was had

    not loves tragic mournful loss

but only of summer days of rapture warm,

the lustful nights of wild abandon

when crazed and foolish lovers blind were lost in loves unbridled passion.

Remember not sad words we spake in anger

but smiles sweet and kisses warm

the tender touch that true love knows deep in the fiery burning soul.

Remember this and think perhaps not badly

of one who loved perhaps too much

with madness exquisite to love so madly

it shreds and tears the bleeding heart.

As Summer fades and turns to Autumn's fall

    of burnished
