What is Sleep?
A condition of body and mind that typically recurs for several hours every night. The nervous system is inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended. Oxford Languages

Humans sleep in 90-120-minute Cycles that typically repeat four to five times per night.
During a sleep cycle, there are two distinct Modes and four unique Stages.

REM – Rapid Eye Movement mode
The minor portion of sleep
Dreams occur (resemble waking life)
Fast brain waves, eye movement
Loss of muscle tone (near-paralysis) to prevent us from acting out our dreams
NREM – Non-Rapid Eye Movement mode
The most significant portion of sleep
Heart rate falls
The brain uses less energy
Regeneration occurs
