Yellow Bear: The Language of the Wind, #2

About this ebook
Yellow Bear was walking in the woods one day. He was deep in the woods where the trees are close to each other, so close there was hardly room to move between them. But Yellow Bear managed. Sometimes he would have to climb over branches, and sometimes he crawled under them. Walking in the deep woods was hard, but Yellow Bear was really enjoying it. Casual strolls, where the trees were not as close to each other, were nice; but walking this obstacle course was also fun. Yellow Bear was drawn in this direction, so he kept walking (and climbing, and crawling).Suddenly, Yellow Bear popped out into an open meadow. This was the place he had been drawn to. A nice meadow full of wildflowers and singing birds. Yellow Bear was about to sit down and relax and enjoy this meadow, taking in all its majestic beauty; when the Wind came to play with him, flipping his ear forward. Come, play with me! it said.Yellow Bear knew the Wind. He knew how nice it was. The Wind brought smells to his nose of honey, berries, and other foods. The Wind told him where other animals were. The Wind could keep him warm, or cool him off. The Wind brought him music as it sang through the leaves of the trees. Yes, the Wind was nice. But, this was the first time the Wind had invited him to play.Yellow Bear loved to play, oh how he loved to play! The Wind had tagged him, so now Yellow Bear ran to tag the Wind. The Wind was elusive, and the first few times, Yellow Bear missed. Yellow Bear would chase the Wind, and just as he was about to tag it, the Wind would disappear. Then the Wind would appear someplace else and Yellow Bear would chase it again. And, again the Wind would disappear just as Yellow Bear was about to tag it. Then Yellow Bear stepped onto the WindWhere he stepped, there was nothingWhere he stepped, there was everythingThen he knew why the birds singAnd the children laughHe knew why water flowedAnd fire burnedAnd he knew why the Wind called to himand why he longed to answer. My Origins
Yellow Bear
Yellow Bear was first invited into my life when a friend said to me, You’ll be called Yellow Bear, because you’ll go where the Wind blows . Then nothing happened for several years. One day Yellow Bear started showing up and we’ve been best friends forever ever since.
Even though I was 40+ when I first met Yellow Bear, afterwards I started having memories of him being there in my early years.
In one of those memories, there were a bunch of children stranded in a field of fighting during the Civil War. Suddenly, Yellow Bear was there in our midst. As many children as could, clung to his neck and his back. Then Yellow Bear took them to safety.
Yellow Bear returned, several times until he had rescued all the children but one. This child waited until last for he knew that Yellow Bear would always return. And I’ve kept him close for the rest of my life.
At first, I knew that Yellow Bear was not me. But at some point, I became aware that he was also me. That dichotomy still exists. But I’ve learned that it’s ok and I don’t worry about it so much.
Yellow Bear is my self=friend. He is my truest self, the one who is always connected to the Wind.
Yellow Bear may be always connected, but he also has his bear side. He’s mischievous at times and can be easily distracted, especially by food.
Yellow Bear loves to eat and his favorite food is blueberries. Yellow Bear has a knack for finding berries, especially blueberries, even when I doubt their possible existence.
When I’m hungry, I always stick close to Yellow Bear.
To Yellow Bear, blueberries are in essence spiritual food.
Shana is another of my self=friends. Shana can’t help laughing all the time. He never learned how to cry. I have other self=friends, but Yellow Bear and Shana are the closest and I’ve been aware of them the longest.
Shana is like a brother to me. Yellow Bear is like a brother bear.
Yellow Bear and I are not graceful learners. We’re often easily distracted, especially by food. And we often have to re-learn tomorrow what we already knew today. Such is the way of remembrance.
Yellow Bear’s Origins
Yellow Bear was born 400 years ago or more. Some say he’s as old as the Wind.
In one version of Yellow Bear’s origin story, he
