INTRODUCTION
My Breathtaking Commencement
I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
- Michael Jordan
When writing a book, the purpose for the book should always be a guide that helps you write the best book you can, but what about that small part of you that wants it to be the best book ever written in history. The competitor in me secretly wanted to title this The Best Book Ever Written,
but I didn’t want to come off as cocky before you even read one sentence. However, I do want this to be the type of book that people read and say, I’ll never be the same moving forward because of the knowledge that I have gained from reading this book,
the type of book that makes the reader feel they can achieve perfection if they follow the steps that are written in it. The concept of being perfect can never be reached theoretically, but there is always the next best thing. That is the idea of becoming complete as a person, ensuring there is nothing you can’t do. If there is something you don’t know how to do (yet), the simple fact that you are complete allows you to know how to research the problem at hand and find the answer to your question.
When I think of someone complete, the best example I could give you would be Bradley Cooper’s character from the movie Limitless, Edward Morra. Except, of course, without the side effects, he had from taking the pill. In the movie Limitless, NZT (the pill) was the cheat code to living a complete lifestyle; it allowed you to enhance brain power and human functionality. It created someone who could learn how to do anything they put their minds to while also knowing that the ultimate goal was to live their best life and be someone with no limitations.
Now, the idea of someone becoming that person who many consider just a fictional character is just an idea until someone pulls it off. It is the same thing with the four-minute mile or men flying when they weren’t born with wings. Something is always unfathomable to those who are unwilling to go out and achieve it. We don’t know that we can do something until we do it. A major part of becoming complete is not being afraid. Fear is just an emotion that causes someone to hold back because of the unknown. We go through life naturally wanting to be comfortable, not taking any chances or risks because of the possibility of failure. But what people fail to realize is that failure becomes strength when we learn from it and can turn that same failure we went through into success. The reason I chose to write this book is a summary of everything you have just read. I want to help as many people as possible reach their full potential and become complete as a person.
As a child, I wanted to be like Mike because there was nothing that he couldn’t do on the basketball court. His Airness
Michael Jordan could pass, dribble, shoot the mid-range jump shot with the best of them, defend, rebound, dunk, shoot three-pointers when he wanted to and was clutch when you needed a shot to win the game. To most people that watch basketball, he is the GOAT (greatest of all time). Some people might say Lebron James is the best, but it’s hard to argue six-for-six in championships and never even going to a game seven in NBA finals, with six NBA championship finals MVPs, but to each his own. If I were to argue for one or the other, I would end the debate like this: Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever, but Lebron is the greatest all-around basketball player ever, if that makes sense. When Lebron is finished playing, he will probably have 4 or 5 championships and all the records that one can have, such as scoring the most points in NBA history, top five in all-time rebounds and assists, along with countless other accolades that prove he’s the best all-around player ever… but Jordan was just on another level when it came to winning NBA championships, killer instinct and determination.
However, it’s not the rings that make Michael Jordan who he is. The fact of the matter is that if he weren’t complete as a basketball player, he would have never earned the rings or accolades, to begin with. He worked extremely hard after being cut from his high school basketball team. As I mentioned earlier, failure becomes a strength when we can learn from it and turn it into success. Michael Jordan rode his failure in high school to becoming the greatest player of all time. He worked on everything that involved playing basketball, which made him complete as a basketball player; there was nothing he couldn’t do on the court, so there was no way to stop him.
Similarly, I want everyone that reads this book to become unstoppable in life. There is nothing you can’t do, and you have no holes in your game. You’re complete as a person, and the word limitations does not apply to you. The word can’t
isn’t even in your vocabulary. Now that I have given you the pregame pep talk, it’s time to get down to business. First, we will go through the different actions that must be taken to become complete, and then you will start implementing them into your daily life and routine so that by the time you finish the book, the world will be your oyster.
CHAPTER 1
We have to Start Somewhere
Most people find themselves trapped in a life they don’t
