Description: This fruit comes from a small bushy tree even though it can grow up to 15 feet tall. It has been a native of the West Indies, Mexico, Central and South America. This fruit has also been known as the Puerto Rican, West Indian or Barbados Cherry. Tart in taste, this small berry is similar in appearance to a cherry. It is red in color when ripe and has a soft flesh. It has been considered a good source of vitamin C, maintaining a high level of this even when prepared as a jelly.

Description: This seed comes from a perennial plant and under proper conditions the plant will live from three to six or more years. The seeds are kidney shaped and develop inside small twisted or cured pods. The plant has been used for any years as a crop for animals. Today the sprouts are popular in cooked dishes and in salads

Description: This is the seed or fruit of the Almond tree which grows widely: California, Australia, Southern Europe and Asia are common locations. The tree looks very similar to the Peach tree and the seed or kernel is also similar in appearance and taste. They are either bitter or sweet by taste and thin or hard in shell quality. The variety can be pealed with just the finger. Years ago, they were named by the country of origin but it is not known if that custom still persists today. One type, the Jordan Almond is usually larger and has a more delicate flavor than others. Almonds are eaten fresh, made into meal for cooking purposes, and the oil is extracted for many uses.
