The Walls Remain Alive - Nimrad Robinson
Chapter 1 : Back 2 Basics
THE CAR DRIVES UP THE road, stops at the intersection and turns left onto a quiet street. There's music playing loud as the occupants of the vehicle sing along merrily. About one hundred metres from the intersection is a Y junction. The car takes another left turn onto a narrow street, with tall and dimly lit appartment blocks. It drives all the way up to an abandoned looking building and stops in front. Headlights are turned up to the highest level of brightness, as if they were some kind of search lights. Music is turned down as the occupants of the car seem to scan the area, as far as the light could reach. After a few seconds the car's engine is turned off and the headlights go out. The car doors open, out steps three men who are seemingly in a very joyous mood, judging by their constant chuckling and cackling. They walk away from the car and walk towards the building still chatting and laughing. All three have something they are carrying in their hands, as seen with the help of the dim lights in the building. Once at the entrance, they enter the dilapidated building swiftly, without any hesitation. Like men on a mission, they take the staircase and head up into the building, only now they were quiet. Up the stairs they go for a few floors until they reach a floor with a well lit corridor. They walk past a few rooms on both sides of the corridor, before stopping at one of the doors. One of the men puts his hand in his pocket to search for a key, whilst the other two stand behind watching both sides of the corridor. He pulls out a key and proceeds to open the door slowly and carefully. The door opens, he steps in alone and the other two stay standing guard outside. Once in he walks over to the wall on his right side and flicks on the light switch. With the lights on and the coast clear, the other two men walk into the room and close the door. They lock the door, look at each other amidst the chaos in the room and burst out laughing.
Ariel : Guess who's back baby!
Cedric : The boys are back in town!
Garry : Say what!?
Ariel & Cedric : The boys are back in town!
Garry : I can't hear you, let's say it altogether
. Ariel, Cedric & Garry : The boys are back in town!
They put down the bottles they are carrying on the table, huddle and embrace briefly. They break it up with high fives and chest bumps, before returning to the bottles on the table. Garry gets three glasses, wipes and cleans them out before placing them on the table. Ariel opens a bottle of Rum and pours out some of it into the three glasses on the table. Cedric opens a bottle of soda and tops up the three glasses with it. Once all three glasses are filled up, he hands them to Ariel and Garry. The three men raise their glasses and toast to friendship and good times.
Ariel, Cedric & Garry : Cheers to the good times and may they keep on coming!
They clink their glasses and take a gulp from their drinks.
Garry : Why don't we tidy up this place a little?
Cedric : What's wrong with it?
Ariel : I agree with Garry, let's tidy up this place a little. I know it's a mess already but a little order amidst this chaos will make a difference
. Garry : Like we can pack away the things on the floor and on the bed you know
.
Cedric : Ok ok let's get to it then, I want to enjoy my drink without any disturbances
.
The three men get to picking up the clothes strewn across the floor. They also pick up the bottles and cigarette butts on the floor and threw them into a big bin bag. After a while of tidying up, the room is in order again and the three men can enjoy their drinks.
Ariel : Looks so neat I might just consider putting it up for sale
.
Cedric : Are you forgetting what the rest of the building looks like?
Garry : Exactly, unless you blindfold the potential buyer all the way to the room, only then can I see it happening
.
They all burst out laughing at all the statements they had made about the place.
Ariel : So much negative talk but yet here we are sitting, drinking and having fun
.
Cedric : Why do we somehow always end up here, even though we have an actual place to stay?
Garry : It's like our tree house or club house, where we have all our conversations about adventures no-one should know of
.
Ariel : I call it Headquarters because of how secretive and hidden it is from the general public. Like a hideout but with exclusive admission to the three of us
.
Cedric : HHQ! Hideout Headquarters
.
Garry : I like the sound of that
.
Ariel : Me too, so HHQ it is then
.
They raise their glasses one more time and toast to the new naming of their hideout.
Garry : I still wonder how you two are still alive
. Ariel : Is this your way of saying you wish us death?
Cedric : And when you say you two, how dare you leave yourself out of it?
Garry : Whoa Ok ok let's calm down now. That obviously came out differently than what I actually intended
.
Ariel : It better be Garry, what did you want to say then?
Garry : Just that you two have survived some seriously dangerous situations, it's surprising that you're alive
.
Cedric : "How did you fail to say that the first time? Garry i think the rum is taking you
