After 30
plus years of dwelling and debating on it all, this is my attempt to logically explain what and why I believe regarding Christianity having actually read the entire story, front to back, 3 times. Me in a nutshell, 53, born into a Christian family, mother very devout, but mentally distraught and emotionally unstable to the point of being extremely offensive to any and all she might meet. Having been dragged to many a church of various denominations during my youth, the turmoil within the family left me with disdain for my mother and Christianity. I guess I was 20 or so when I finally had enough and just flat out told her…
NO, I DO NOT BELIEVE
!!!
Her cry at that moment was:
JUST READ THE STORY
!!!
Of which I replied:
"OK!!! I WILL READ THE STORY!!!
Yes, I was angry!!!
And I did read the story…
The 1st time as a complete non-believer with no pre-conceived notions or beliefs, for I never paid any attention to anything they were trying to tell me. However, by the time I had finished The Story
I came to believe and walked that aisle to give my life to the.
LORD JESUS CHRIST
at Rehoboth Baptist in Tucker, Georgia.
Please note I simply read the story. I did not try and memorize scripture & verse for I was not able to do so and comprehend what it had to say. Nor did I read or pay any attention to any commentaries or footnotes. The 1st Bible I read was Concordance, simply because it was there at the time, the 2nd being King James and the 3rd New Revised Standard.
Second time after having come amongst the brethren. Baptist mainly, and discovering that much of what I had thought I had come to know and understand simply by reading God’s word was unheard of…
Now being of sound mind and body I said to myself.
Surely I had not missed all that
?
And went back to reading that story again, this time with the King…
The 3rd time having convinced myself I am not the nut they think I am, and I am going to confirm this to myself one more time.
The biggest difference in my understanding is I have taken the Bible literally. It meant to me exactly what it said. Parables are noted in the Bible as such and metaphors are easily discernible such as when Christ says
I am the door
John 10:9 KJV
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
Notice he did not say a door
for he is neither a door
, nor is there any other way to enter salvation.
Whenever I hear I have the (Holy Spirit), and what that says is not what that means
My jaw’s wide open :o
I’m not biting!
My beliefs here within are not necessarily mine conceived by me only, but I have listened throughout the years to what everyone has had to say from all denominations and have taken what has made the most logical sense compared against what I had read and saw to begin with.
Thus, here it goes…
